Do you play chess?

I play chess, though basically just the bots on chess.com. I can destroy Nelson now but Wendy is tough for me. I'd say my elo level is around 1300-1400.

I was never great or anything, but I did use to enjoy playing back in high school/college (1998-2004 or so).

I feel like sometime between 05-08 I started running into more bots (or people using bot assistance) and less human opponents and it became pointless.

Oh yea, and as a kid (early to mid 90s) I loved the 'BattleChess' game on the PC

Often I'll get a msg from the servers saying I played someone who was determined to be using some form of hax, and they refund the elo pts

The large sites are probably (I would hope) better now about detecting cheating than they were 20 years ago.

It just felt like every time I would get to a certain level I'd inevitably run into a clump of games featuring 'people' playing at lightning speed that never made a mistake who were obviously using assistance. Rather than kick them off the platform, the system wouldn't do anything about it other than force you to play it out and take the loss.

I never cared about losing (I had zero aspirations of topping leaderboards or playing at a professional level... I was miles away from either of those), it was the waste of time that bothered me.
