TORONTO -- No stranger to fighting, former NHL enforcer Donald Brashear is looking to mixed martial arts.
A spokeswoman for promoter Ringside MMA says Brashear has a deal to try cage-fighting.
The 39-year-old Brashear still has to pass a medical exam and get a license to fight from Quebec authorities. The plan is for Brashear to fight on the Ringside 11 card June 4 at the Quebec Coliseum.
Brashear is playing in the semipro Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey. He played in the NHL for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and New York Rangers.
The 6-foot-3, 237-pound Brashear collected 2,634 penalty minutes in 1,025 NHL games from 1993-2010. He had 85 goals and 120 assists.

I can see him doing well in bar brawls, but not in MMA.

No hockey player will become an elite MMA fighter, but I'd like to see Douglas Murray fight.

He will probably be a chump and fight smaller fighters, but i hope he doesn't, i hope he fights real fighters and gets smashed to sh*t.
He was the type of human who will pick fights with fans much smaller than him and intimdate them in front of girls(went to court over that)when a guy is out cold from hitting his head on the ice, he will keep punching him the face, when the toughest guy from the other team challenges him(Laraque) he won't fight, then later he'll pick a fight with a non fighter or young guy and kick his ***, but won't ever face the guys who will beat him.
The best part of this story is that he is out of the NHL. Hopefully he did not invest well and is looking at pro fighting and staying in beer leagues because he has too. One of the worst sports players there is.

That guy took a massive blow years back from Marty McSorley with a hockey stick.
I did not think he would ever play hockey again after that cheap shot.
I'm not really sure what this means for the MMA community, I would like to see a hockey player do well in the transition, but we already know that the guy can not take a big shot to the head.

I don't think a 39yr old Brashear will make much of an MMA'er, but if major sport would produce an elite fighter, I think it would be hockey.
