It doesn't matter who JDS would have gotten next. No
1 win
would get him a 3rd title shot so quick. Barnett is the best guy they can give him.

No he isn't... They could have given him Werdum or Browne... However after that their would be no where to go but to give him a title shot afterwards... They could have also given him someone lower ranked since he wont be getting a title shot anytime soon, but it's hard to do that when you pay him as much money as the UFC pays JDS... Almost have to put him in fights that move the needle a bit...

Werdum and Browne going to fight each other for a title shot they've both earned. So again, Barnett is the best guy they had to offer. JDS getting a top title contender after just losing again to the champ is beyond unrealistic and just not smart.

I would have given him Bigfoot and Barnett Mark Hunt, then if they both won you can throw that fight together since neither guy would still be in place for a title shot... Now any fight for JDS will be a step down in competition after he puts Barnett to sleep unless he fights the Browne vs Werdum loser...

Overeem v Mir is happening in February, but JDS v Barnett is targeted for June. Kind of a long wait for the Overeem v Mir winner.

I think it's probably good timing. You'd have JDS/AO on the same card with Cain/Browne Werdum winner in Nov or NYE card. That would give them 2 fights in 2014 and enough time between fights to heal if beeded.
