Dream has added two new fights to the upcoming Dream 17 card in September including lightweight champion Shinya Aoki taking on former WEC champion ‘Razor’ Rob McCullough.
Since losing to current Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez in April 2010, Shinya Aoki has gotten his mojo back, winning his last five fights in a row.
Aoki last fought in late may where he defeated former UFC lightweight Rich Clementi in the 2nd round.
Now Aoki will take on another American when former WEC lightweight champion ‘Razor’ Rob McCullough takes the trip to Dream 17.
After exiting the WEC in 2009, McCullough picked up two wins before entering the Bellator lightweight tournament earlier this year where he was promptly eliminated by Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire by TKO.
He’ll try to reverse his fortunes against a very tough opponent in Shinya Aoki.
Also added to the Dream 17 card is a bout between Satoru Kitaoka and former WEC fighter Willamy ‘Chiquerim’ Freire.
Kitaoka enters the bout on a three fight win streak picking up victories in both Pancrase and Deep, while Freire makes his long awaited debut in Dream following his release from the UFC in early 2011.

a win for aoki once again does pretty much nothing for his career. i hope strikeforce actually gives him a challenge his next fight, someone like masvidal.

I heard Bellator and Dream gonna work together.
Aoki vs Alvarez II would be good.

I don't mind these fights with Aoki.
I'd rather watch that, then a "top fighter" like Melendez play the safe game for 25 minutes.

Crawling around on you *** and refusing to engage in any form of stand up isn't playing the safe game? That can be viewed as much Aoki's fault as Gils can't it?
In the Maia/Silva fight when Maia realized the fight wasn't going to the ground Maia stood in the center of the cage and emplored Anderson to exchange strikes knowing he had to do something in order to try and win. Aoki certainly could have taken the same approach in the Melendez fight. Unlike Anderson Gil would have at least traded leather with him.

I'm just saying i'd rather watch a good fight that's not about rankings, then a crappy fight between 2 top fighters.

Willamy has been waitin a while to make his DREAM debut. Him and Kataoka should be fun. Aoki will likely take Rob's back and choke him out

looks like just another spoon fed fight for aoki...
I swear his last win over a top tier fighter was 08 when he tapped out alvarez, since then he hasnt been really proving that he's one of the best at 155
