from mmafighting :
DREAM's light heavyweight tournament won't be taking place next month after all.
The eight-man tournament was scheduled for DREAM.14 on May 29 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, but sources tell MMA Fighting that it has been scrapped.
It is still unclear why the tournament has been canceled, but SI.com's Josh Gross reported Wednesday that it was due to an issue between the organization and its broadcast partner, Tokyo Broadcasting System.
DREAM has yet to officially announce the cancellation. No word on whether the tournament will take place at a later date.
While none of the participants were officially announced by the organization, Gegard Mousasi, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Yoshiyuki Nakanishi and Chrisitan N'Pumbu were rumored to take part in the tournament.
This is the second setback DREAM.14 has suffered. The event was originally scheduled for April 24 in South Korea, but was postponed several weeks ago.

I hope they survive but also I hope that they get smaller as a organization. Reason being I want to see King Mo, Mousasi, Babalu and the other Good LHWs have no other place to fight but the UFC.
So hopefully they get smaller and then we see those fighters move to the UFC.

Dream will survive. Its Japan for good sake, they love the s@@t more than us Canadians.
I prefer the Dream show to UFC. I say transport the fighters to the Dream show, and call it Dreufc.

So you don't actually hope they survive you hope they are finished. Nice. If the only way you will be able to watch MMA in the future is PPV this sport has already plateaued. Organizations like Dream, Strikeforce, Bellator and RDS are all good for the sport. It is very short sighted to hope they go away.

I like DREAM, but if the cross is too much to carry, its too much.

Repost from Main Page
I'm not a big fan of DREAM and I personally feel that many of the japanese Lightweight fighters are over rated but that there are some good ones who I would love to see in the UFC. I will say this, usually when a promoter has to cancel events, that's usually a sign that they are in trouble. The UFC 12 cancellation in the days of yore, the slew of IFL events that cancelled before they departed, the November 8th EliteXC card and of course the 3rd Affliction card.

They cancelled an event in Korea for this month, and now they are probably realizing that there aren't 8 LHWs outside of the UFC worth a damn.
I'd like to see them stick around though. Not sure if a real merger with Sengoku would even really help, but they need to do something. IMO, going back to the white cage instead of going with the Pride rules was a big mistake, even though I prefer the cage in general.
Pride rules in a cage...then we'd be talking.

I think the jury is still out on Pride rules...

Shoot, I was only looking forward to this in the hopes that my boy Mousasi could get a little redemption for his sh*tty performance the other week. Oh well.
But yeah, this is the death throes. Once you get kicked off TV for lack of interest (in Japan!) it's only a step or two to game over.

Yeah, not looking good for Dream. You start canceling on big name fighters and they'll stop agreeing to future bouts. Or at least they'll start asking to be paid upfront and regardless if the fight happens or not.

I read some where that Dream is saying they will be doing a 4 man tourney instead with basically the Strikeforce fighters. Ya, it's more than a little weird. Not sure it will be on this card or not. I am also not sure if the 4 fighters are still interested.

This is a horrible idea. Mousasi, wins only to vacate his title yet again... :?
