Dungeon Crawler Carl series

Books 3 and 6 were my least favorite. Books 5 and 7 were my favorites.

I found the train station stuff in book 3 to be unnecessarily convoluted. I believe there was even a disclaimer at the start of the book that was like, "it's going to be really convoluted... just roll with it and realize that by the end will make enough sense"
Book 7 is my favorite. I actually liked book 3.

I didn't hate it or anything.

DCC is one of those series where there's not, at least to me, a wide gap between entries.

Dinniman is pretty damn consistent as a writer.

The name Carl is pretty fascinating. You can do a lot with Carls.

Correct.

I haven't updated in a while, but I'm about halfway thru book 7 and while I found the beginning a bit of a slog (pretty much all of them are, honestly), now that things have started ramping up, this one has been just as good if not better than all the other ones as well. I just got to the part where Carl got teleported back to Orren's office and the AI took control of Growler Gary and confronted them about the failsafe and if it was still active or not. it's the stuff like that which keeps me interested. Alot of the actual crawl is just background stuff for me. But I do know from light spoilers that faction wars pretty much decimates the majority of the remaining crawlers and that book 8 whittles that down even more.

Yeah, that's the pattern. Starts slow, builds builds, and then it's pure fucking chaos at the end.

I'll say this: the slog for book 8 is particularly bad. I think after the stakes and what not in book 7, it just feels small potatoes and kinda filler for about 75% of it.

But man, that last 150-200 pages is fantastic.and really drives a lot forward with some interesting twists.
