This almost certainly means that Aldo vs Volkanovski will fight for interim 145 at UFC 237

I saw this and I took off my glasses to make sure they weren't smudged, dawg I am perplexed. Poor Ferguson, what happened here? Now we holding up 145? Smh....

Well from what the article says Ferg was approached and turned down the fight. As for holding up the 145lb division? Who is the clear cut front runner for a title shot? In their UFC top 10 there is one guy potentially deserving of a title shot and he is already booked against Aldo. Other then that most are on a 1 fight win streak or just lost in their last fight. Edgar I don't want to see him near a f---ing title shot till he puts a nice strand of wins together. Guy has had two cracks at the belt already and is 1-1 in his last two hasn't fought in nearly a year so he should not even be close to a title shot talk, Aldo has already been crushed twice by max so no one is clamoring for that rematch except aldo. Who else at FW other then say Conor moving back down to run back Mcgregor/Holloway?

Volkanovski probably has the next case but I could see him fight someone like Edgar, Ortega or Aldo first. I defywouldnt hate that.

I think everytime Tony hears the work interim he shrinks a little bit more each time.
But I'm happy Dustin's threats worked
16-4-1 - no title shot's sucks
beat Max Holloway the first time so they've got a series
In addition to Max beat two other former UFC champs
5 FOTN's 4 POTN's
Knocked out a title challenger in his debut (Josh Grispi)
He's on a 3 ME run and all three have been classic
It's a better fight because Dustin has more KO power than Tony

145 is stacked but sadly so many of the prospects are stuck in no man's land. Because the UFC is the no fun league and every PPV is uninspired and formulaic we don't get to see cool stuff, but just imagine if they did a DWCS for the 145lb belt.
Mirsad Bektić
(13-1) vs Frankie Edgar
Alexander Volkanovski (19-1)
vs Jose Aldo Zabit Magomedsharipov (16-1) vs Brian Ortega

My first thoughts:
A) AWESOME fight
B) Interim LW belt...WTF???
C) Khabib apparently won't be returning until November
D) Tony turned down a bout with Max
Not ideal circumstances, but ok. I doubt the bout have occurred if not for a title, but it is a fun, fresh match-up in a division in which the champ will definately be out for 9 months. This also makes the UFC's refusal to negotiate GSP/Khabib more sensible. A worthy LW challenger would not have gotten a shot for at least 12 months.

Trying to think of the last time I saw a boring Dustin fight ...
Nah, I got nothing.

Fun a-- fight. I'll take Maxy baby
I actually kinda get where Tony is coming from. He wants the Khabib fight. Its
the
fight. He already fought for an interim and won. So i doubt he is clamoring to get in there and fight for another one. Especially considering he was stripped of the belt w/out losing. Been there done that. So I get why he's turned down the interim fight. He knows its meaningless.
Im guessing him refusing to fight Max is just a business move. The guy deserves Khabib. Thats the fight. Why put it in jeopardy by fighting for a fake belt you already won 2 years ago? We all know interim champ no longer means "Automatic #1 Contender." Max vs Dustin II is a great matchup. Glad to see Dustin get a shot at a belt

It’s a fun fight but I really would’ve loved to have seen Max v Ferguson. 2 guys that are teak tough that never gas. Would’ve been a crazy back and forth for 5 rounds. Nvm. I think Max finishes Dustin late. Poirier will not do well in 5 rounders. Especially against someone super hard to put away that can go 5 rounds easily.

I don't see that fight the same way.
Tonys long limbed jitsu has bailed him out on a few occasions lately. Whereas Last fight it was Pettis' lack of bollocks that got him off the hook. I think maxes biggest attribute from this point vs the likes of Ferguson and McGregor is good experiential knowledge of his durability vs theirs. He'll know.that if it's a firefight with Tony, he wins, and if he makes it a battle of attrition vs McGregor, he wins that too. Conor would be the fight where he'd have to.weather more.of a storm...while Khabib flattens him.
But Fergus?......
I'm not seeing it lately. I'm feeling more that the combo of his ability to eat a lot of sh1t ...backed up with his Jiu jitsu.. is the only thing between him and a one sided whooping. Buoys boxing is terrible.
Entertaining combo it is tho. No denying that. But if max keeps that one standing, and doesn't follow Tony to the mat.. think he slaps the chops off him.

Agreed with most of your post. But it is not a fresh matchup. It's a rematch. Neverthess, it will be good to see how they've progressed.
