In fairness the Brandon Thatch parade was incredibly premature. He beats Paulo Thiago and suddenly he was going to be champion.
Erick Silva is talented as hell just had some terrible luck and tough opponents.

Perfect example of 2 guys who were not built up properly. Too much too soon, for both guys. Kills confidence, and sends them right back to the minors really quick. In what world does Brandon Thatch need to be fighting Benson Henderson (was originally booked against Stephen f---ing Thompson) in his 2nd UFC fight. UFC loves to kill its young prospects. Conor McGregor was brought along at a great pace IMO for a young prospect with a lot of buzz around themselves.
Either way, I like the fight. Its a must win for both guys, those fights are usually very telling for where a guy is at in his career (also shows a lot about their mental focus, and preparation, not to mention how they handle adversity) Who will come out on top when backed into a corner, with your UFC job on the line. My money is on Thatch but I wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way. Both guys have a lot of power. Thatch is the better striker, Silva has an edge on the ground. I don't think he will try to take it there though and he will probably strike with Thatch. Im thinking Thatch gets a TKO round 2 in a competitive fight.

I think Thatch was moved along too quickly to the Bendo fight and it ended up hurting his stock.
Anyone can win here but my gut initially says Erick by submission

Totally agree not saying either of them would've been as big or good as Jones or McGregor but look how slow they brought those two up with favorable match ups

Silva was very highly touted coming in that's why he got fights with Fitch/DHK/Brown fairly quickly.

Thatch might have the worst grappling out of any UFC fighter.. Atleast out of all the multiple fight UFC vets. Silva could take him down and outwork him on the ground any time he wanted to. He won't though.. 50-50 fight. Someone is going to sleep.

Personally I think it's Silva. He was one of my favorite prospects and I'll still cheer for him but man for a guy with all the physical tools he just doesn't seem to have a great fight IQ.
