Erick Silva returns at UFC Fight Night 58 against Mike Rhodes
Out of action since May, Erick Silva will be back to the Octagon in December. The UFC announced on Tuesday that the Brazilian welterweight will take on Mike Rhodes at UFC Fight Night 58 in Barueri, Brazil, on Dec. 20.
Silva (16-5, 1 no-contest) continues his quest for consistency in the UFC after suffering a TKO loss in an epic brawl with Matt Brown in May. The former Jungle Fight champion went 4-3 in his previous seven bouts inside the Octagon, winning all of his UFC fights inside the first round.
Rhodes (6-3), a former RFA welterweight champion, has yet to win a bout in the UFC. The Roufusport MMA Academy fighter, who signed with the promotion after winning six of seven fights, suffered back-to-back losses to George Sullivan and Robert Whittaker in the UFC.
Lyoto Machida vs. C.B. Dollaway headlines the fight card at Barueri’s Jose Correa Gymnasium on Dec. 20. In the co-main event, former champion Renan Barao meets Mitch Gagnon.

Absolutely horrendous matchmaking. Rhodes was a legit prospect coming into the UFC but at 6-1 he needed time to develop, yet every fight he's getting a more difficult opponent.

There's probably more upside to building Silva up. Dude could be a star if he just put the pieces together. He's currently one of the biggest underachievers in the sport.

Sucks that Erick Silva is really a lot older than he looks. If he was actually in his early 20's it'd be insane what his future would be like

I really don't see much upside to building Silva up. He's got fairly clear limitations, and at 30 years old & nearing his 10th year as a pro, it's unlikely that he's able to develop enough to become a legit contender.

If Mark Hunt can do it, anyone can!

Poor Rhodes. Loses his first 2 UFC fights and gets an even harder fight against an explosive Brazilian in Brazil. He's a sacrificial lamb here.
This continues the pattern Silva has been in lately. Tough fight - winnable fight - tough fight - winnable fight.

Rhodes gets subbed inside the first 2 minutes.

Don't see Rhodes winning this one but I guess anything can happen.

Huh, in Brazil? Better make sure Rhodes has a pulse before he steps in the cage. Biggest question is.....Is Silva still going to be called a prospect before/after this fight?

And he will be favored in his next fight against a top 10
I really wish they didn't mishandle his career so much. He's really talented and probably could have been a contender if he wasn't rushed, and then rushed back into big fights after Fitch exposed some big holes in his game
