While UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans might be focused on challenger Lyoto Machida, by no means has he forgotten about Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
He says the two nearly came to blows at a recent UFC photo shoot.
Some intrepid UFC staffers booked them on the same day, and things got ugly for a spell.
"I looked at him and he walked out of the room," Evans told MMAInsider. "He was like, 'that's messed up putting us together.' They tried to separate us, and the UFC walked him out in the hallway and walked me out in the hallway. And they walked me into the same hallway he was at.
"I looked at him and I was like, what, man? He was like, 'Rashad don't talk to me, man! Don't talk to me! Don't say nothin' to me! You don't know me! You don't know me!' The (expletive) I need to know you for?"
Eventually, cooler heads prevailed, and the photo shoot went on. But Evans filed it in the motivation bank for later.
Following UFC 96, the two went nose-to-nose for forty heated seconds to hype a future showdown.
Later, Jackson bowed out of a quick turnaround meeting with the champ at UFC 98, citing jaw surgery that would make him unavailable.
Many fans wrote the encounter and its aftermath off as hype, part of the business of promoting. Evans maintains it was all real.
"(My camp) was laughing about it, but I was pissed," he said. "I felt mad because I felt like he disrespected Keith a little bit. Keith tried his *** off and he had a good fight, and Rampage didn't look all that good to be acting like he killed him or something. I just didn't like that. Whenever you invest in any of your partners, and when it doesn't turn around the way you want it to turn out, it kind of hurts your feelings a little bit. And that's what happened."
Before 96, he says he got along fine with the former champ, which takes him away from all-out hatred. He's happy to face challenger Lyoto Machida on May 23rd, but looks forward to the day he can squash the recent animosity with Rampage.
"I don't dislike him, but I really want to whup his ***, you know what I'm saying?" Evans said. "I don't know where that falls. I like Quinton. He's a funny guy, and a great person, but I really want to beat his ***. Is that too much of a hypocrisy?"

If Evans and Jackson fight, the
UFC Countdown
episode before the event would probably break the record for people saying "whup his ***" in one hour.

When the "dust clears" I wonder who's gonna come out on top (between Machida, Evans and Rampage)?
I kinda think Machida will serve both, but I can't call Evans vs Rampage :?

I lol'd in my poli sci lecture
IMO your not a champion untill you defend your belt, so i think Evans should just stop acting like He's big s---, he went 3 rounds with Forrest... who had a broken hand.

The same Griffen that beat Rampage, who did defend the belt? The same Evans who is undefeated?
Hate to bust your bubble but your opinion is wrong. The champion is the one with the belt around their waist; and right now that person is Rashad.

Rampage has no shot at beating Evans or Machida.

imo he does not have a chance against Machida but i think he can beat rashad i say he cant beat machida for the simple fact.He had problems with the awkward stance and style of Jardine Machida would mess him all up.

Why do you think Rampage "has no shot" against Evans?

this is weird - they get all uppity with each other at a photo shoot?
it's great fodder for a future fight, but if Machida defeats Evans, then Rampage fights Machida - if Machida should win that as well, then will we really care about Rampage vs Evans? Maybe, but this is way too early to be hyping a fight between the two, even if the animosity is real.
I mean, do we care that Matts Hughes & Serra have an unsettled beef? I don't.

seriously, you can maybe make that argument for machida but no way can you say it against evens. the strikers that love to bang. that equals 50/50 with both of there skill levels. page a little more tech but even faster. either way he def has a shot. not very well thought out indeed

They can have their grudge match after they've both been beaten by Machida.

ole rampy who went on and brutalized people has a shot, the new rampy who hangs back, counter strikes and looks for ko punch will lose. Rashad and Machida are both way better at that game plan. Rampy will lose by decision in both cases because his defense is good enough to prevent a TKO or submission, though Machida has a better chance of a submissionthan rashad. Todays rampy isn't aggresive or dominating enough to take either Rashad or Machida out of their game plan. If he isn't fast enough to destroy Jardine, he definately isn't fast enough to mess up Machida or Rashad.
don't let rampys success against chuck fool ya, look what the decent speed of Griffin did to Rampy, griffin didn't enjoy such an obvious speed advantage against Rashad.
Outside a lucky punch rampy loses both.

Rampage should chill with the Rashad antics. His opponent will be Machida. And I'm a fan of all three men. But Machida's technical skills cannot be overlooked.

Am I the only one who'd prefer Rampage/Evans???
I just think Evans/Machida will be too much of a chess match and will be a pretty boring fight.
If you're basing things on the last performance of all 3 guys, you have to like Machida's chances. Rampage had problems with Jardine's awkward style, but landed the big shots to win. Griffin was easily winning the fight against Evans, until Evans landed the big shots to win. Machida ran over the big hitting Silva. Machida's chin is the question mark? I'm not a big fan of Machida, but as long as he can avoid a big shot, he'd have to be a favorite against either Evans or Rampage.
