Due to my overall piss poor choices on my last poll I have decided to redo it including the obvious choices I forgot. If you choose an unlisted act please just write it in.
Groups who just missed and are out because I only have 10 poll options: Pharcyde, Outkast, Cypress Hill, 2 live crew, Beastie Boys, Hot Boys, A Tribe Called Quest.
Notes:-- I left out Hot Boys just because in the end they will be far less memorable then most of the options on my new list.
--Outkast/A Tribe Called Quest are left off due them only having 2 MCs while same could be said for RunDMC and Public Enemy PE had other members with small parts and with RunDMC is hard to argue that Rev. Run was a not huge part of the group and really I couldn't leave them off upon further review.
--I was going to exchange Fugees for Pharcyde considering the Fugees really only existed for one album before break up but felt Fugess make on commercial success and solo work post break up.

Gotta go with the Wu tang clan. Everybody has had great solo albums and are still putting out great albums. Although IMO Ghostface and Reakwon have gone down hill a little bit since Ironman and Only built for cuban linx.

One of my all time favorite groups. I had a seriously tough time leaving them off and only did so because I felt a lot of their seriously influential pieces were outside the hip hop genre. I still say Paul's Boutique was years ahead of it's time.

Supreme Clientel was a sick album as well as Fish for Ghostface. Reakwon hasn't even come close to what he achieved on Only Built..

A Tribe Called Quest should be included under Native Tongues (Tribe, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep).
OutKast should be included under Dungeon Family (OutKast, Goodie Mob, Cool Breeze, etc.)
There is also the DITC crew (Lord Finesse, Showbiz, A.G., Big L, Diamond D, O.C., Fat Joe, Buckwild)
There is also Boot Camp Clique (Black Moon, Smif-n-Wessun, OGC, Heltah Skeltah)

You're right Supreme Clientel was a good album. I haven't heard Fish. Is that new?

Winner!
And NWA is on there twice. Replace one with the Native Tongues. And great catch Andre remembering that.

The first concert I ever saw was Tribe and De La in '92.

I didn't want to say anything because a lot of people on the board like them.... but Bone Thugs lick bag. I wouldn't say they're not hip hop, but I would say that I find them unlistenable.

I keep seeing the name thrown around in Hip Hop conversations and it makes me want to hit myself with a 2x4. I would have to say Bone Thugs style was more Rap based.

IMO all rap falls under the broader heading of "hip hop". Rap is the music of hip hop. The four elements of hip hop are: MC'ing (rap), breaking, graf and DJ'ing.

You still could have listed beastie boys if you didn't list NWA twice.

While I would have to agree to a point, I would also have to say that lyrical content in the rap verse can be a big determining factor. The message of rap is consistently more materialistic and violent. You wouldn't compare say 50 cent to Guru lyrically would you ? Its 2 different styles.

Their styles are different, but they're both still hip hop. All rap music is hip hop. Even the most ignorant, stupid lyrics are still hip hop. IMO. In the Venn diagram, rap's circle is completely contained within the hip circle (my second Venn diagram reference on this forum).

Gotta be Wu-Tang.
Then I'd go Gangstarr(Guru and DJ Premier), Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Jurassic 5.
*Probably should subtract one NWA and add the Beastie's and Gangstarr.
