Aleksander Emelianenko has ridiculed claims that his brother Fedor cannot sign with the UFC because its contracts are, as Fedor’s manager Vadim Finkelstein has often said, “too restrictive”.
According to Finkelstein, negotiations to bring Fedor to the UFC have broken down in the past because the contract would impose too many restrictions on the Russian heavyweight, such as banning him from competing in Sambo tournaments.
“You can negotiate with the UFC. I know that their contracts are sufficiently flexible,” Aleksander told Sports.ru recently.
“And all this talk about the restrictive conditions when signing the contract with the UFC comes only from [Vadim] Finkelstein, who wants to promote his own business through any Fedor-UFC contract.”
Aleksander - an accomplished heavyweight himself - echoes the sentiments of many fans with his comments.
UFC president Dana White has in the past talked about some of the demands made by Finkelstein, ostensibly on the part of Fedor.
These are said to include the signing of multiple Red Devil fighters to UFC contracts and a commitment to co-promoting a show in Russia.
Finkelstein himself said after the collapse of Affliction that the “way is open” for the UFC to sign Fedor - if they will co-promote any events he is on with M-1, Finkelstein’s MMA company.
As there is almost no chance of that happening, the chances of Fedor entering the UFC heavyweight division are looking slim at present.
