Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir holds a number of UFC records including most fights (27), most wins (16), most finishes (13), and most submissions (8). And now he has been granted a release from his UFC contract.
In April of 2016 it was announced that Mir failed a test for Oral Turinabol metabolites. He speculated that it
might have come from the ingestion of kangaroo meat
. However, kangaroo meat in Australia is not farmed; it is, in fact, the world’s largest consumptive mammalian wildlife industry. So while Mir could have taken it in a tainted supplement, the kangaroo theory is implausible.

Mir received a two-year suspension, and cannot work as a color commentator or analyst for FOX during that period. However, the fighter served as a color commentator at Absolute Championship Berkut Fights 48 in Moscow, Russia last year.
In October while in Russia, Mir spoke with Ivan Sin for
CageSide.ru
, and said he is asking for his release from the UFC.
“I really would like to step outside,” said Mir. “
UFC is not going to be able to get into Russia. Here you already have phenomenal leagues.
Obviously, UFC is a very big thing in the US, Canada, Brazil. But I like coming over here, I like the culture, the people. Fighting here and in Japan are two dreams of mine to be able to accomplish.
“And also fighting in different types of fights, as right now UFC only allows me to fight MMA. I am gonna have to retire, eventually time’s gonna catch up to all of us and I am no different. I have never got to do kickboxing matches. I have only fought an amateur boxing match. I want to do a professional boxing match. You know, I always wanted to test myself and find out different things. …
My goal is to do at least five K-1 rule kickboxing matches, five professional boxing matches before I retire.”

Mir was asked how soon he wanted to fight if he was released by the UFC.
“The next day,” he replied.
Mir will not be able to compete in mixed martial arts in North America, and may have problems getting licensed to box or kickbox. However, he will likely run into no regulatory issues in Russia or Japan.

Wow Mir not being in The UFC feels bizarre? He was one of the first modern fighters I heard of and watched, back in UFC 48. As long as I've been a MMA fan he was always there, competing.

Frank is 2-6, in the last 5 years, in his chosen sport so it makes total sense, at age 38, to branch out into other combat sports. It is smart to focus on Russia, where he could likely show up with a syringe sticking out of his arm and be cleared to fight.

Bellator would be all over this. Mir vs. Fedor? Coker would love that fight.

He can't fight in entire North America.

Total sense? No. Some Russian kickboxer is going to give him a concussion.
He won't be remotely competitive.

So don't have him fight in North America, he can fight in England, Russia, and Japan. Bellator isn't a US only organization. Everyone is pissing and moaning about Fedor not fighting names well Frank Mir will be yet another UFC HW champion he can fight in Russia.

I dont see Bellator bringing in Mir to fight while he is on suspension. They might sign him but they wont book him
They had Wanderlei and Chael under contract while suspended but still honored the suspensions

My favorite Frank Mir moment was either when he fought Shane Carwin or when he fought Mark Hunt.

His second fight with Big Nog was absolutely insane.....probably the biggest win of his career, and the way he went about it made it that much more impressive. I had a love/hate viewpoint towards Mir, he had his moments but needs to retire before he gets (more) brain damage.

Props to the reporter for getting such in depth information on the kangaroo meat

They were under suspension by NSAC, Frank was suspended by USADA.

Fedor vs Mir really does make sense. Would love to see him fight Big Foot, Lil Emelianenko if he really wants to go to Russia, Rampage, Rizin with Herring or other vets

I wanted to see fight Werdum but I guess that won't happen now.

Only if you are willing to pay money to see an aging, well past his prime, cheat fight.
The only old man bout, that I can think of, that was decent was Couture/Nog.

It would most likely be a free tv so I actually wouldn't have to pay

Mir should just do grappling super fights. He shouldn't be fighting anymore.
