Gegard Mousasi Bandwagon
I've been seeing a few of these for some different fighters recently and figured I would start one for Gergard (The true 2008 fighter of the year) The dude is a beast and in a year or two will be competing with the top dogs for #1 p4p fighter (Useless arguement, but he'll be in it) By the end of the year I think a lot of the casual fans will start hearing about him and be clamoring for him to come to the UFC.
Also, does anyone know which Super Hulk tournment winners face off next? I would love to see Soko face off with Minowa and have Gegard vs HMC next to set up a Soko vs Gergard for the finals. Say what you want about Soko, he lost to Machida and was giving Babalu and Cane hard rubs. He is a great talent and would be a huge notch in Gegards already impressive belt.

Re: Gegard Mousasi Bandwagon
Ive been on Gegards bandwagon since a while back before i posted on these forums. I think he was the best MW out there and now that hes at LHW i think hes easly in the top 3 LHW's out there. He seems at a very nice weight 213 i believe was his dream weight a decent size cut to 205 he should do extremely well there, Frankly i put Gegard right next to GSP's skill level Fedor>GSP>Gegard hes just so talented if he were to become LHW and HW champ at dream and strike force(Affliction as well if they ever make belts) i wouldnt be surprised.
Also agree that Soku is a real talened guy he just needs the right camp, he is far from a can for any dumb asses out there who say he is. His last few losses were to top 10 LHW's(cain being the exception though he is really good and i expect nothing but big things from him) it happens hes still extremely unexperienced and as time goes on expect him to be sturring up another storm.

Re: Gegard Mousasi Bandwagon
love mousasi but not sure if we need a bandwagon just yet. in fact, gauging by the limited responses in this thread, i'd say i'm probably right. can't wait for mousasi vs belfort. this will be the first mousasi fight that i'm really looking forward to.

This fight may not take place. It was set up as a MW fight and Mousasi isn't willing to fight at 185 any longer.
While Mousasi deffinately deserves to stay on the radar at LHW giving him P4P status before he has even fought at that weight letalone beaten anyone is putting the horse in front of the cart to say the least. The fact is all of the best LHW's on the planet are in the UFC so if Mousasi doesn't end up in the UFC sometime soon his move to LHW is pointless.

Well, that's right, I think there is no doubt in the world that the best LHWs are in the UFC, so Mousasi will hardly adquire a p4p status untill he ends up in the UFC, or some of the UFC lhws go to other ORGs...

Re: Gegard Mousasi Bandwagon
I think Mousasi is a good fighter... I was expecting more out of his match w\ hunt : (
I'm not jumping on any bandwagon or drinking any cool aid yet though. If he's going to fight @ 205 he needs to prove himself against top talent. Hopefully they square something away for the Vitor matchup. If mousasi destroys Vitor, pass me some of that coolaid

Re: Gegard Mousasi Bandwagon
I am not quite sold on him,
yet
. I think he could be great but Jacare and Kang gave him his wins in the Dream MW GP and Mousashi in k1 isn't exactly Badr Hari/Bonjesky caliber.

agreed. the ufc needs to quit shamelessly promoting TUF fighters on spike tv and start spending some money on bringing in real fighters who are already established. get mousasi, fedor, overeem, jacare, to name a few. shake things up a bit.

Strikeforce should have brought him in to fight Feijao that would have been sick.

Well, Pat Barry had one and people are talking like Cantwell and Jon Jones are the next big things, so freak yeah Gegard deserves one. He is only 24 yrs old with a 25-2-1 record with impressive victories (Jacare, Kang, Manoef, Hunt, Cyborg) ending most of them in the 1st round. PLUS he trains with Fedor, can you imagine being as talented as Gegard and training with the best fighter in the world? I can see this dude making some huge waves in the upcoming years.

That would be a great fight....BUT I think those guys are gonna be the fututre of the LHW division, so it would be a shame to have them fight each now before they create a "World Beater" reputation for themselves.

I'm in the bandwagon, since everyone is getting hyped before they do anything then I buy Mousasi. I thinnk he is excellent and I like his style. He will do very well.

Re: Gegard Mousasi Bandwagon
Why would Mousasi come to the UFC? So he could be ducked by the old guys like Machida was for the longest time?

Do you realize Machida made over 400,000 his last fight after the additional money he received?
How long would it take Mousasi to make 400,000 for a fight outside the UFC or with the UFC?
What happens when after their next show Affliction does not see it as financially viable to continue their operations?
Who does he have bidding for his services after affliction goes under? Strikeforce and Dream?
He is not a big draw for dream and he might do ok with Strikeforce but the pay comes with a ceiling with the current fabric of MMA.
If he is able to go to the UFC and real off some impressive wins he could not only gain exposure that would benefit him after leaving the UFC, but also would allow him to make exponintially more then his other options.
Or he can continue to let M-1 shop his services and take what comes along. This can lead to long periods of inactivity.
So the better question may not be why would he come to the UFC, but rather why would he not?
Unless of course he does not want to risk losses that could possibly effect his value when tested against some of the best fighters in the world.
