I was grossly disappointed when I heard the card for this year's Aussie event. Admittedly, it turned out a lot better than I had anticipated and having the first flyweight bouts was a bonus but even that was undermined by the fact that it wasn't even a numbered UFC event, it was just a Fight Night.
At just under 15,000 attendance, I'm left wondering why Zuffa don't make the move to a bigger arena and put on more significant cards. Australia is an insanely sporting-mad country and it's pretty obvious that we love MMA. Australia could be one of the biggest venues for this sport in the world if only Zuffa would give us a chance.
Melbourne, in particular, has so many stadiums it's literally not funny. A 30,000 seat capacity stadium is readily available and even larger can be had should Zuffa want it. And Melbourne is even more sports-mad than Sydney. We'd eat up an MMA event like it was free-candy thrown from a Mr. Whippy van. Put on a decent card and we'd set the newest record for fastest sellout in UFC history... again.
So come on Zuffa, some respect, give us a bigger event at a larger venue; you won't be disappointed.

You were disappointed in the card? GFTO!
2 top welterweight fighters & the start of the Flyweight Tourney, it was an awesome card!
If they took that card to the UK, I'd have been delighted.
Australia has been getting great cards & big venues, you have nothing to complain about. Just be lucky you're not from the UK.

What Spud said.
Also, fighting in a cage is illegal in Melbourne apparently so that's why you haven't had a UFC event there yet. Dana mentioned it at the pre-fight presser.

War Sydney
Yeah, fighting in a cage is banned in Melbourne. Ironically, the cage is there to protect the fighters.

Melbourne still has it banned. Sydney is fine.

As long as you guys don't get another Fitch main event, you should be fine buddy. I'm sure UFC is always looking for a bigger arena after a sold-out event.

What about everywhere else?
We all have stadiums which could be filled easily
At least the UFC will be heading back to Oz on a yearly basis, they came to Ireland once with no signs of a return

I agree we do get some s--- cards but for the most part they have all turned out to be quite entertaining so cant really complain. As for Melbourne the others are right cage fighting is banned in this great city, we can fight in a ring just not a cage :?
But yes Melbourne would be awesome for a big UFC event although I dont see it happening anytime soon.

It's one of the unfortunate (but, to be fair, understandable) things about our sport that we have to continually explain this to the uninitiated.

If Australia wants the UFC to come back, the people who run the athletic commissions need to go back to school and learn math.
I understand Australia was once a prison colony, but that's no excuse for messing up a UFC title tournament.

The thing is, it's a lot easier for you to fly, or drive, to another state in America to see UFC than it is for someone from Australia or the UK to see an event when there's not one in their country.

Australians need to get over their entitled attitude.
Listen to that reporter that bitched to Dana White about the card at the press conference after such an awesome card. He is an ungrateful idiot.
This turned out to be a great card and you got to see the semi-finals of a flyweight tournament and people still complained about not getting enough BIG NAMEZ!

It's still illegal in most of Australia. Only New South Wales and Queensland allow it. (2 of 8 states)
