Japanese superstar, Takanorio Gomi could return to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 21 on March 21st in Denver, Colorado to take on former number one contender, Kenny Florian.
In a jumbled up report by Fighters Only Magazine it appears that the promotion may look to introduce Gomi to the masses on free TV, rather than trying to flog him on a Pay-Per-View card.
Gomi is coming off back to back wins after suffering a slump in his MMA career, defeating Toney Hervey last time out in October via unanimous decision.
As for Florian, he was last seen submitting all action 155 pounder, Clay Guida at UFC 107 in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to that he lost to lightweight champ, B.J. Penn, but has vowed to return bigger and better in the future.

I hope so, it would be pretty lame if they placed the fight anything other than co-headline.

If this fight actually takes place on this card it would be absolutely amazing for the fans, considering that we get it for free and it will be a accompanied by the main event of Jones/ Vera.
This was the face I made when I saw this:
. And yes, my face is yellow and extremely small.

And by the way, Fighters Only is reporting that if this happens it will take place at FN 22 not FN 21. Kind of sobering news but I am still excited about the potential match-up.

I would think Florian/Gomi has as much main event power if not more than Maynard-Diaz did last night.

Wow, I hope this is true!
If so this would be one of/if not the most stacked UFN ever. Also, if true I feel sorry for the people that don't get Versus.

KEITH FLORIAN SAYS BROTHER READY FOR GOMI, WHOEVER
A revamped training camp and new focus led to Kenny Florian's flawless performance over Clay Guida at UFC 107. Now the Boston based lightweight is looking for big fights again in 2010, and it could start with Takanori Gomi.
The rumors have circled since the weekend of UFC 108 when Gomi's signing was announced, and immediately Florian's name was mentioned as a possible opponent. Florian's brother and head coach, Keith Florian, says they'd take that fight in a second, but as of now it's still up to the UFC.
"I think Gomi would be a great fight for Kenny. He's one of those people who was No. 1 in the world for a long time, and I think that would be a great fight for us," Keith told MMAWeekly.com recently.
There is a glut of talent at the top of the UFC lightweight division. With Gomi's entrance, Gray Maynard's recent victory, and Frankie Edgar, Keith says there are a number of top opponents for his brother to face next.
"I think Frankie Edgar would be a great fight for us, with Kenny's new wrestling," he commented. "I think Gray Maynard would be a great fight with Kenny's new wrestling, and we can still expose those tools that Firas (Zihabi) has, he has Olympic level wrestlers, and we could form a really nice strategy against him."
Of course, we now know Edgar is next on tap for UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn. But that still leaves, at the least, Gomi and Maynard.
Working with Firas Zihabi and the team at Florian Martial Arts Center, Keith feels his brother is hitting on all cylinders with his training right now, and hopes to make this year a memorable run for Kenny.
Staying active is also a big part of what makes his brother's game so strong says Keith, who calls B.J. Penn the best in the world for a reason, but feels the long layoff between fights for Kenny before getting the title shot affected his performance. Keith is hopeful his brother stays busy in 2010, and also makes his Boston debut this August.
"God willing, we'll have a fight around March or April, and then August would be fantastic," Keith said.
Stay tuned to MMAWeekly.com for more information when Kenny Florian's next fight becomes official.
