I always thought Sokoudjou was the best first round fighter of all time, he beats most guys he fights in round one, then goes on to gas really hard.

I agree. That's why I mentioned Phil Baroni. He may not win, but in the 1st round he is very entertaining to watch. Then is he completely gases out.

I immediately thought BJ when I saw the thread title. He never looked over matched in the first. Still makes me sad that he's "retired." Hoping to see him vs. Gilbert Melendez in SF.

When you factor in skill level of opponents, it has to be BJ. There are a lot of guys that "blow their load" in the first round and have amazing first rounds though.

Bj is the best 1st round fighter, but at WW he is one of the worst 3rd-5th round fighters.

He's finished Hughes (2), Ludwig, Gilbert, DIn Thomas and Caol Uno. He had a good first rounds against some top name opponents, but he's not been a first round phenom.
The first is by no doubt BJ's best round, but I don't think his first round record is better than everyone else's. I'm not saying it's horrible as he's done well - just not worthy of the greatest label. In my opinion, of course.
Anderson has 17 first round stoppages with wins over former champions like Belfort (UFC), Franklin (UFC), Griffin (UFC), Marquardt (Pancrase) and Newton (UFC).
GSP has won every single first round with the exception of four fights; Hughes I, Kos I, Penn I and Serra I. Twice, he recovered from losing the first round to win those fights.
Interestingly, in each of the five rematches with the four fighters who took a first round from him (Hughes fought him two more times), St. Pierre took the first round from all of them in convincing fashion. That's 20 first round victories for St. Pierre which also turned into actual victories, too.

Ok, I have to be the one, Fedor! 23 of 33 wins in the 1st rd. The fights against Coleman, Nog and Schilt were complete one sided beat downs also, along with every other first round in his fights, besides Arona, were complete Fedor in his wins! His losses were pretty epic also, in the 1st rd Werdum and Hendo!
