decision wasn't THAT bad. it's wasn't like it was hammil/bisping or anything like that. i'm not sure what i think about guys trying to hand pick their way to a title shot. as much as i'd like to see him fight gomi, it doesn't make too much sense. i think jim miller would be a better fight for him as far as rankings go. no sense in fighting guys below him.

Decision wasn't that bad, I agree it wasn't terrible, I have definately seen worse. The big problem I have with it is that someone could score it 30-27 for Guillard, which makes me dislike the whole decision. I'd have way less of a problem with 2 judges going 29-28 but 30-27 just reminds me of why I quit watching boxing.

it may not havebeen 30-27 but melvin won the fight. Stephens could barely touch him.

exactly, neither guy did anything significant in the second round. it was kinda a throw away round there. reminded me of round 2 of robbie lawler vs chris lytle. lawler basically took the round off and let lytle chase him down. lytle could barely hit him and robbie only exchanged 3 or 4 times in the round.

Gomi was one fight away from getting cut - and suddenly he's a guy that gets you a title shot?

Guillard doesn't get by Gomi anyway, but I did find that funny, too. Apparently, Guillard has been so impressive that he gets to call his shots now...you know, with all the top level competition he's been facing.
How Melvin is even remotely in contender discussions is beyond me, but once he faces someone in the top ten, that discussion will end.
I think Guillard won the fight personally. It was close, I'll give stephens that, but he couldn't touch Guillard the whole night. Guillard won a smart fight and stuck to his game plan. I don't blame him for respecting Stephens' power and staying away from him. However it didn't produce an exciting fight and if he plans on doing the same with Gomi I wont watch it. I think Guillard needs another solid wrestler to prove himself. Maynard or Edgar will be the champ soon, and they are both stellar wrestlers. I think it should be...
Guillard vs. Sherk

Guillard's just unrealistic about what's going to get him a title shot. Gomi isn't going to get him to the title. He should try challenging Sean Sherk or something.

I think Gomi will take him out.
Kind of like Gomi vs Griffin imo.

Same here.
Guillard is no threat to the title. No where near a title shot.
Melvin never has been and never will be a contender for the title.
His performance last night was a stand up fighters version of lay n pray.
I can't stand Melvin.
I believe your last sentence summarized the rest of your statement.
He's been doing better. Becoming more well-rounded, in a great camp and has become very humble, actually. To say Guillard will never be a contender is a bit ludacrous. I mean the dude is what, 27? So much more time to regain more knowledge of the game.

It's true. He's developed a solid jitz defense game and has a pretty reputable sprawl. He has poweful slams and can take someone down if they aren't that good. His striking has always been powerful and he can stand with anyone. But Frankie edgar and gray maynard would be able to take him down and keep him there. His wrestling game has been a weakness of his for along time, but he's been working on it. He can be a contender some day, but right now he'd get schooled by the best of the lw division. Also, frankie would be able to stick and move against Guillard and avoid the powerful shots. I think Melvin could continually swing and miss against him.

Greg Jackson......I hate you.
You turned one of the most exciting fighters at 155 into a human dose of Lunesta.
That fight should've been a draw. Nobody "won" that "fight".....it was an attempted fight.
