According to Dana White, if Hector Lombard wins his match against Brian Stann, he will get the next title shot at the UFC middle weight title. This what Dana had to say about Lombard getting a title shot,
"Lombard beats Stann, guy been on a 25 fight win streak, it would make sense. If the guy comes right into the UFC main event, and knocks out Stann, you know it makes sense"
Hector Lombard is actually on a 24 fight win streak, but is still an amazing streak. Lombard has beaten the best middle weights outside the UFC. He has notable wins over James Te Huna, Trevor Prangly, Jesse Taylor, Alexander Shlemenko, Jay Silva, and Brian Ebersole.
Lombard only two loses in his mma career have been by decision to Akhiro Gono, and Gegard Mousasi early in his mma career.
Hector Lombard faces UFC veteran Brian Stann at UFC On Fox 4, on August 4,2012.
Make sure to tune in, you don't want to miss these two elite middle weights going at it in the octagon.

His record is good, but I'd have at least thought that they would wait until the Silva vs Sonnen 2, and then maybe give him Sonnen or even Bisping 1st. That said, any new challengers for Silva are a good thing and it'd be a decent fight.

What's awesome is that his streak is so full of filler and padding that even to find slightly notable fighters they had to use Jay Silva And Jesse Taylor.

Yeah I would've liked him to have at least one more fight if he beats Stann.Brians a animal, but not unbeatable. He could've faced either the winner of Bisping v Boetsch or Munoz v Weidman, even Alan Belcher before he gets Anderson or Chael..
I'm still down for whatever..

That's one of the things that's always bothered me about imperfect fighter rankings. Prior to Munoz' injury, the Sonnen-Munoz fight was supposed to be a #1 contender fight. Ultimately, Sonnen got the win and it worked out that way but somehow Munoz loses his spot in line and gets jumped by a newcomer? Boetsch, Munoz, and Belcher all have at least 3 fight win streaks with credible wins over top 5/10 guys. Weidman is undefeated and beat a former title contender on short notice and Bisping took Chael Sonnen the distance in a close fight. He'd probably be the hardest of the bunch to sell having been 1-1 in his last two fights (assuming he beats Boetsch) but I'd buy any of them before I bought Silva/Sonnen - Lombard.

I said yes if he dominates Stann in all aspects of mma and finishes him. Hes been figthing Class C fighters for way too long and Stann is one-dimensional. Id have to see more than just a flash Ko or a quick sub....

haha this is one of those situations where I LOVE this fight BUT he absolutely does not deserve it with just a win over Stann. Belcher/Bisping/Munoz are all in the mix right now and have all faced much better competition than both Stann/Lombard put together.
I think they should've put Belcher vs. Lombard as #1 contender fight. It's not like Stann has been dominating the division...his 4 wins are not top 10 competition and he got obliterated by Sonnen.

If he beats Stann he desreves it.

Does Stann deserve a shot if he beats Lombard?

Nah, I reckon Stann would have to beat one of Bisping, Munoz or fight Sonnen again 1st, before getting a shot.

Indeed. I know Lombard has a great streak, but he needs to be tested. There are UFC MWs who have been tested and either deserve their own shot, or at least a chance to make Lombard prove he really belongs in this discussion.

Funny how you leave out the guys who are in the UFC. Here we go again with the no competition is good unless their from the UFC. Jesse Taylor was supposed to be there anyway, I can name you plenty of UFC cans padding records. Do I think he can beat Anderson, NO. Stann sure.

Notice he didn't say he gets it if he wins, he said if Lombard KOs Stann then it makes sense. Spectacular wins get title shots, always have, always will. That's why Nate Diaz jumped in front of Pettis. That's why Fitch will have to win 40 more fights to get a title shot.
Is it right? Maybe not, but since there are no official rankings....

A lot of people will disagree and tell you the level of comp is so "great" it's hard to KO people. I agree with you though. If Lombard can KO Stann which HAS happened I don't see it as enough to warrant a title shot jut cause the ability gap between Stann and Spider is "light years" and KOing Stann in no way gets you ready for Spider, thats right no periods read it all one breath
