Well not really an argument but a dicussion with a fellow MMA fan. In the exchange that resulted in Machidas knockout, did he attempt to throw a kick after the straight right? or is it just the momentum that made it appear like one of his straight left/left kick combo?
Im the guy saying "NO" that was not an attempt at a kick. Thank you for your input.

Not even close to being a KICK, that is all shogun's power catching him and causing his legs to fly up due to the power. Not even CLOSE to being a KICK.

I don't even think it's debatable. He obviously went for a right headkick after the right hand.

It would be nice to hear the opinion of some of the most senior/respected Mma junkie members.

Its hard to tell because it doesnt look like a kick, but it also would be very weird to throw a punch and have the same foot come off the ground and forward just because he's throwing a hard punch, unless he lost balance.
Isnt one of his "moves" to throw a punch and sweep with the leg?

Machida is known for kicking and punching nearly at the same time.
Not like it matters, since Machida went to sleep anyway.

I know what would clear up anything about the second fight between Machida and Shogun,
Stop talking about it!

If I was choosing sides, my money is on the punch/sweep kick.

The gif needs to start a couple of seconds earlier to be sure what he's doing. The sweep isn't a bad call because it's unlikely that Machida would allow his weight to shift forward that much if he weren't intending a follow up of some sort.
Looking at the replay in slow mo, as much as it pains my soul, that was a beautiful counter by Shogun.
