How Are We Going to Grow Our Membership?

I did spam the link in a few places which upped the number of bots online but not members so we will need a targeted approach. It's going to be tough to find the right people not just extra people

More Europeans would be good, I wake up to loads of notifications in the morning and not enough people around all day

There is but between Eranys, Myself and Nastycrow there is usually one of us online to remove them ( we are not the labour government )

Likely a dumb question but...

What's the goal here?

The consequences seem pretty clear - a buncha bots/trash peddlers and a shitload of admin time to weed them out.

But what's the specific purpose for growing the membership? Capitalism? To make money on ad revenue? That makes sense, but who will benefit from that? Or is the goal to grow TFF, Genesis, or other game participants? That makes sense too, but are we looking for quantity of players or quality of players? Knowing what we may know about percentage of bots and fake accounts online, what kind of quality participants do we stand to draft by putting the word out on Facebook?

If we're looking for quality game participants I'm of the opinion that a targeted, specific approach that doesn't involve opening the floodgates is the way to go. For example, @Trig reeled in @CHP . That's a worthwhile fish to pull into the boat - a solid mma fan who will show up week after week. IMO, pulling in a bunch of randoms will degrade the quality of the games as people will no-show and miss weight.

There are no ads here and no way to profit. I think people are doing this for social reasons. I agree that random people from the internet would be bad for competitive things , but I could see some value in having more actual MMA fans frequent the forum.

I was under the impression that this site was a FUBU thing.

Yet. There's no ads here yet. Offers will be coming.

I agree on quality mma fans. But casting a wide net doesn't seem very likely to achieve that without a fuckload of admin time. I'll start poking around at my jj school. Although what I've found interesting is there's not that many guys that I roll with who are up to speed on MMA. They know who Jon Jones, Conor, and Alex Pereria are. A few may watch numbered cards, but I don't see anyone who would want to/be able to make picks on a card like this weekend's.

And again, I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

Wait until HK claims that he didn't chip in to get this afterbirth up and running because of all the ad revenue he knew he would generate.

To get more quality mma fans to chat to, to participate in games and to entertain me whilst you lot are asleep

Yeah, Maybe @CHP can bring more of his friends, but totally random people is a risk. I don't have a strong opinion either way, just don't think I miss the "broad population" like in Mania

Dont forget that half of us just kind of invaded the other half and we pretty much all became friends so we need to stay open to new people. I feel really lucky to have been accepted by everyone because I'm not exactly the average fan

Ok, putting on my project manager hat for a minute:

While I agree that's a good goal, how do we actually accomplish that? Getting more people isn't necessarily the hard part, but "quality" absolutely is. And our definition of quality is people we want on the boards with us who contribute in a meaningful and positive way.

So outside of the typical marketing/engagement paths to draw people, how do we screen for that? If we start opening the doors and get Shelly's and optis and Nic Cages and the like, were just making the home we built less unappealing for us. So, again, how do we filter that so we only get the people we want?

Let's face it, the vast majority of MMA "fans" are not people we like nor want to really engage with. I'm down for bringing in the right people, but I'm not down for turning this into a halfway house for anyone who occasionally puts on a UFC card. And personally, I am not down to sit there screening every noob for potential fit.

My vote is we let things sit as they are for at least six months and really think it through before trying anything.

I agree.
Lest this site turn into a vanity project.

Don't worry my friend, I already started the screening process. The future on keeping @Honky Killa around is diminishing every day.

You're not wrong, but you hit the nail on the head when you said you feel lucky. Because we DID get very lucky here.

We just happened to land in a spot that needed/wanted an infusion of new blood, shares a lot of our perspectives on things, was willing to let us be ourselves, and our crazy happened to line up nicely with their crazy.

And honestly there were some bumps in the road at first until everyone got used to each other, and I won't even pretend like I'd have that sort of patience for noobs coming in that was show to us.

Idk. I get the want, I get the why, but being completely honest, I just don't love the idea at this point in time.
