When they read the decision I couldn't believe one judge actually gave that fight to Munoz. Okami clearly took rounds 1 and 3. In the first, Munoz ate a lot of solid punches while barely securing a TD that lead to no offense at all. In the second he dropped Okami so that round goes to him. In the 3rd he got dropped and out struck giving the round to Okami.
So I had the fight 29-28 Okami. The fact that a judge saw that fight for Munoz just makes me cringe.
Choose your scoring and post what rounds you gave to each fighter.

First round was the critical one. I had Okami because he was keeping alot of pressure of Munoz on the feet, Okami stuffed takedowns and although Munoz got him down he did no damage and Okami got right back up again. I REALLY wanted Munoz to win but the fact is Okami was better than him last night.

Okami won 1 and 3.
Muñoz's striking flurry won him the 2nd.

To be honest, once Munoz had shown he had one type of takedown attempt and it wasn't working, i wouldn't have given points for the rest of them.
I thought 29-28 was generous. Munoz had a knockdown which Okami transitioned into top control before he'd practically hit the ground.
i don't see how Munoz wins a round just for that.
Split decision was weak though.

This is no lie, the judge that gave the fight to Munoz........ Cecil Peoples.
Everyone in the room couldn't believe it was a split decision either. I thought it was pretty plain to see that Okami won the first round by controlling the ring, and landing the better strikes. Munoz got 1 takedown towards the end of the round, that Okami immediately got up from. 2nd round was Munoz all the way due to the knockdown, 3rd was Okami all the way due to his knockdown of Munoz, and the fact that Munoz couldn't get him down to save his life.

Did Muñoz get rewarded for failed takedown attempts?

I had it 29-28 for Okami.
Munoz was shooting too far out. He should have tried working takedowns from the clinch more. Also, in the second after he dropped Okami, he really should have used his boxing to capitalize, instead he went again for a long distance takedown.

The judges heard Goldie and Rogan say "that takedown might have earned him round 1".
Okami won 1 and 3.

I was never an Okami fan before last night but, I gave him all three rounds. Munoz could have taken round 2, I wouldn't argue about it as it was the closest round but, Okami basically owned him (in spite of his gameness) in round 1 & 3.

It's amazing how much better Okami has looked since losing to Sonnen and training with him. I think he went for maybe 2 TDs in that whole fight and was content to be on his feet and light Munoz up. He even sounded more confident in the pre-fight footage. I never thought I would be saying this but I'm honestly excited to see Okami's next fight. No more undercard for this guy.

I had it 29-28 Munoz. Whether or not he did any damage after the takedown or not, he got Okami down. I remember Okami pushing the pace a bit in that round, but I thought Munoz eeked it out... I've got to watch the fight again though, I was drinking...

I read on 5 oz that that's why they were picking Munoz...
all i could think is that no one really took into consideration that Okami was coming off a long injury lay off when he fought Sonnen.

I wanted Okami to win and I had it 29-28 for him, but I wouldn't have been surprised in the slightest if they had given the fight to Munoz, especially the way scoring has been as of late. I think Okami definitely won and deserved the decision but by no means would it have been a robbery if they had given it Munoz, a bad decision? yes, but not the robbery everyone would have been posting about.
Anyway, Okami looked great and I'm actually excited about seeing him again in the cage soon.

Meh, that was a split decision fight if I ever saw one. I thought Okami won, but it wouldn't have surprised me Munzo got the nod.
What I saw sitting in my living room is not what the judges see sitting ring side.

Okami hands down...............it was close but only by points since we have to do the whole 10-9 crap other than that Okami won the fight. Munoz's takedowns either were horrible or Okami just made them look horrible.........i swear a few of those take down attempts Munoz was on both knees and just lunged forward.
29-28 Okami

Pretty much everything OP said.
Being taken down for 5 seconds doesnt nullify 4 minutes and 55 seconds of controlling the octagon with jabs/straight lefts and stuffing takedowns.
Just wondering, who do you guys think should be winning when a fighter is in sprawl control. Technically the guy on the bottom is being more aggresive by going for the takedown but the guy on top is in an advantageous position. It happend quite a bit in this fight and I wasnt sure who deserves the points...

I don't know how judges score some things, but it always reminds me of a guy who goes for a submission, an armbar let's say, and can't get it. keeps trying and never comes close to it. is the last attempt worth as much as the first attempt to the judges. by the 4 or 5th attempt, and he's still not getting it, does he still get points for not getting it?
If a fighter easily stuffs takedowns or defends sub attempts, i don't know if they get points. they should.
