I just started this as a fun UFC 106 poll, i'll merge it tomorrow, or if the fight needs its own thread, this can be it.

It would be crazy if he won, i like Kos, but i got AJ in under a minute. If not under that, then shortly after round 2 starts.
WAR KOS! WAR AJ!
They should make all there match ups like this, not wait until a main event pulls out to put together a sweet fight like this one.

I really think Kos will continue to takedown AJ and eventually finish it with a TKO in the 2nd.

Kos dont even try for take downs anymore. he thinks he is a stand up striker now. Not sure if Kos could get AJ down anyway

That's a vague sentiment. Man up and call it.

Where does everyone get this idea that AJ has spectacular takedown defense? Because he's big? The guy was takendown by Clementi and submitted wasn't he? But noooo, of course a very accomplished wrestler like Kos has no chance of taking him down.

more excited for this fight than I am griffin/ortiz. I got AJ laying Kos out in the third round. I believe this bc in the Kos/Chris Lytle fight Kos took Lytle down over and over and by the third round his hands had dropped big time. I believe KOS will have the exact same gameplan in tomorrows fight.

He's bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic than Kos. That alone gives him a good chance at stuffing the takedown (which Kos probably won't even attempt, because he is in love with his overrated standup). Clementi took him down with ease because Rumble took the fight on two days notice. It's a bad matchup for Kos.

Yeah. I think that either Kos will try to stand with with AJ or he'll get smacked around a bit then try for a desperation shot but it'll already be too late.

I'm not much of a Kos fan but I think he takes this one. Kos has been in the cage with the best of the best and AJ has never faced a top level fighter. I know a little time has passed but Burns did go to the third round in both fights and Rich did stop him.

I gotta stand by Kos like someone said he's been in there with the best of the best. I will be ultra-impressed with AJ if he can beat Kos.

I'll give AJ props when/if he earns them. He's looked very, very good against former opponents, none of which are the callibar of KOS. we'll see I guess. Hopefully KOS goes back to his roots and puts AJ on his back.

First exchange, whenever it happens, determines the path the fight goes along: either an AJ KO or Kos GnP. My bet would be a KO in the first exchange. Say, in the first 2:00.

Who EVER said Kos had NO chance of taking him down?
Stop being so dramatic. Many of us wonder if this fight will hit the canvas for several reasons- Koscheck seems to be more comfortable standing these days, we haven't seen those dominant shots in quite awhile, and Johnson is a huge, strong, incredible athlete with a lengthy wrestling history. NOBODY said Koscheck has NO chance of taking him down. But if he only shoots occassionally between scores of overhand rights instead of committing to turning the fight into a wrestling match, a lot of us wonder if Johnson can get a few stuffs and knock him out.
Why do we think AJ might be in the process of developing fantastic takedown defense? For starters, he just *looks* like he's good at it. The eye test isn't everything but it's something, and when the fight starts its means a whole lot more than what your resume says. Johnson is big and shredded and he simply looks very comfortable athletically when his opponent shoots in on him. And whether he was division one, two, nine or juco, AJ's been going to wrestling practices his whole life. Also, we really need to stop using the Clementi fight as evidence of AJ's suspect takedown and submission defense. The man was physically a mess, and that performance was CLEARLY an outlier. If we're going to draw conclusions from the one time a guy was a mess instead of the handfuls of times he wasn't then we should also be saying that Shogun is a bum on the ground (he got subbed by Forrest!), Forrest is a BJJ master (he subbed Shogun, and he's a BLACKBELT!!) and Paulo Thiago is a feared KO artist (he knocked out Kos in the first round!).
