fight should go to whoever won according to the rules. challenger shouldnt have to go in with a handicap.

Re: if a challenger fights a close title fight champion shou
That's not what they do. They score each round individually, and most rounds were pretty close. I scored it for Edgar and I think he should have won, but it was close.

Yes in round one. You still have yet to note anything Ben did to win 2 other rounds.

Still going with that defence? Fightmetrics had Edgar landing more strikes and sig. strikes. So add in the knockdown, TDs, 3 mins of top control, 2 sub attempts, knockbacks, and big leg kick in the 5th, how does Ben win?

Re: if a challenger fights a close title fight champion shou
If Edgar would've won people would argue Bendo should've won. This was a really close fight and the argument can be made for both sides, but Bendo gets the nod in this one and Frankie is going to work his way back up. I actually think this fight deserves a rematch more than their first fight, but I'm a bit happy to have someone in a lightweight tittle fight that isn't a rematch or doesn't involve Frankie.

I had Bendo winning 1, Edgar winning 2,Rounds 3 and 4 were a toss up. Edgar looks like 5 was his but Bendo landed some solid shots late and the head kick. It all depends on how judges view certain strikes. Also, like Rogan pointed out, when Edgar lands something on Bendo it looked undamaging %90 of the time. Bendo lands on Edgar and Frankies whole body shakes. YOU dont know how the judges view that.

Re: if a challenger fights a close title fight champion shou
I say the challenger has to take the belt. If the fight is super close then the champ should stay the champ. However in past nights case specifically, Edgar took that belt. Both in effort and on the cards imo.

Yeah, sweeping his legs under him isn't really "dropping" him.

If Frankie Edgar disappeared from this earth, I dont think I would notice.
I'm sick of watching 50% punches, take downs that aren't followed through on the ground, submissions that he half-way goes for.
I understand position before submission, but that seems to be his style on the feet as well. Pitt-Pat before Power

I dont consider Frankie Edgars right hand that Dropped him while Benson was on the wrong foot, and off-balanced... I consider that more of "knocked-down" as do I about the leg-kicks. Dropped, would imply that he got rocked and it probably hurt him...
I guess its nitpicking at its finest.

Re: if a challenger fights a close title fight champion shou
Frankie needed ONE TAKEDOWN during the final 2 minutes of the fight. He never got that takedown, got his mouthpiece knocked out (again), therefore he deserved to lose the fight!

Re: if a challenger fights a close title fight champion shou
^^^Hey, I wanted Frankie to win, but getting your mouth piece knocked out is scored like a half knockdown in my book. And, because it happened Twice that I remember, a prudent judge would be like "hey this guy is giving Frankie problems, because his mouthpiece keeps getting knocked out".
I was screaming at the TV for Frankie to take him down, and at least lie on top of him for 30 seconds in order to seal the deal. He didn't do it, so I scored the fight a draw, which goes to the champ.
