If Brandon Vera wins, should he be in title contention?

Well, this is a question to you guys. If he goes out there and just decimates Jon Jones (an amazing, young fighter), should that put him in title contention? Sure he is coming off a loss, but just like Jon Jones' loss, it's very controversial and it could be widely regarded as Vera being on a four fight win streak. Do you think he should be in title contention if he wins? Maybe a fight against Lil Nog or something? Answer?

No. In the grand scheme of things Jon Jones is stuck squarely in the middle of the pack. I think Vera winning would be expected of him and wouldn't do a lot for him while losing to Jones would hurt him severely. Really, this match is lose/lose for him as far as getting closer to a title shot.

Great opinion! Alas, I disagree. I believe that defeating a great opponent in Jon Jones would rank him a great deal more significant in the title picture. Jon Jones to many people is the future and has looked unstoppable against UFC veterans like O'Brien, Bonnar and Hamill. Not exactly low level competition. I think a win would put him in line for a fight with the Griffin/Nogueira winner for possibly a number one contendership if Couture doesn't get it.

Its not, unfortunately, anytime a thread is made with a fighter such as Vera or Bisping or a few others, all intelligence goes out the window and people just stay stupid things. I hope and think he will win. I want him to win because there are still a ton of fights I want to see involving him and the tier of the LHW division.
oh and yes, if he wins give him a top 5 or #1 contender (if Randy is out of the picture) and see what he does against a Shogun/Nog/Rampage

No. Jones is a prospect, not yet established as a top LHW. Beating Jones would be a nice feather in his cap, but it shouldn't be enough to put him ahead of Rashad, Rampage, Randy. Give him either the loser of Rashad vs Rampage, or the winner of Griffin vs Lil Nog.

No but he would perhaps deserve a contender fight. None of his wins are impressive or against top flight competition so I don't see how he deserves s---. Hopefully Jones crushes him and this argument is moot anyway.

People are seriously under estimating Vera here. I think he's going to end this fight with Jones quickly, he doesn't perform well against BIGGER wrestlers but Jones will not have the size advantage here. After he wins i'd like to see him against an elite LH before a title shot.

Your post makes me have to ask everyone vouching for vera. Plz, someone tell me the last time vera looke impressive against a contender, for us to have reason to believe he is a threat. This guy went from top contender at hw, to a loss over keith, a win over a can on an undercard, a boring decision win over a very green krystof who frankly he should have destroyed. And a loss over an over the hill randy. I mean, randy did not look stellar against coleman, yet vera wasn't able to pull out a win.
Jones hasn't fought the best, but he's on the rise, while vera is on the decline. Jones went from a c level fighter gusmao, to a c+ in bonnar. Then he gets a b- against obrien, and a b against hammil. Each performance being better and better. And is now training with greg jackson n his fighters.
Anything ccan happen. But will it? Not likely. N I'm up too late, so don't nitpick the small miswordings. U guys get the main point I'm making. Let's hear a response. Id be more than glad to be corrected

If he wins id like to see him fight Thiago Silva and then the winner of that would certainly be in contention for a number one contender fight, i like vera but i think i like him cos i think he's always going to perform when in truth he hasnt, even tho i had him down for the win against couture it wasn't an impressive display at kindest, someone like thiago who could really test his chin and ability would be a great match up imo.
Don't want him or Jones to lose in honesty.
