The whole story surrounding Pat and this fight is quite intriguing. This dude was just working as a cashier at a coffee shop just because the hours he worked still allowed him to train and peruse his dream of being an MMA fighter. To take this fight on a week's notice is very impressive.
If he wins, WOW!! I'd absolutely love to see him pull out the victory.
As much as I call out Zuffa for their transgressions, this is an example of where they might really turn someone's life around very quickly.
Check out Pat's whirlwind last few days:

I think his life has already changed. I'm the UFC will give him at least 3 fights since he "steped up". If he losses all 3 fights, then he will have earned more $$$ in those loses than in his whole MMA career. He can then sign with a smaller, yet bigger org that he's accustumed to. If he beats Cormier, then HOLY ROCKY BALBOA BATMAN!!!

This guy is naturally charismatic on camera. I'm sure he'll have a decent career in the UFC. Maybe after a few months, he will become a douche, a la Chael Sonnen.

I can't wait to see DC put a beating on him. And I don't even like DC much.

You know, there are guys who can play the heel gimmick that I'm willing to support, like Chael Sonnen and Ronda Rousey, and that's mostly because they're exciting, and we've gotten to know them over a period of time. That period of time has allowed us to understand that Chael isn't naturally a douche (he just does a great job playing one on TV), and every ounce of smack that Ronda has talked, she has successfully backed up. They have great work ethics, and that allows me to look past any of the bulls--- they've been involved in in their careers.
Then there are guys like Jacob Volkmann and Jon Jones, who regardless of how exciting they are (or aren't) inside the cage, when given a microphone, they try to sound cool, but lack so much in charisma that it comes out as flat-out douchey. Eventually, we get to know those fighters a little better in the public eye, and we find out that they are total douches. We also find out that those fighters don't actually realize how douchey they are.
Patrick Cummins is claiming credit for making Daniel Cormier cry during one of the most emotionally stressful periods of his professional and personal life. To me, that just feels like a gigantic low blow to a great fighter and greater human being in DC. However, if Cummins' intentions were to come off as the bad guy, then he got his wish, because I already don't like him, and I want to see him get smashed.

He's saying all the right things to sell the fight. The UFC pays good money for that. If he can maintain a .500 record as a heel, he'll make a lot of money.

I agree but he said what he had to say to get the fight. He knows the situation better than anyone else but most people might put a little spin on a story in order to gain a huge opportunity.

only reason I cheer for him is because I'm not a fan of DC
Pat does NOT deserve this shot let alone to be in the UFC with his current record
but go Pat I suppose.

It's also smart for Pat to get under DC's skin, which he clearly did during their Fox Sports Live appearance. You could see DC wasn't at all happy that Pat said he made him cry. Even better was when Pat said he wanted to know how much of DC's purse he would get when he doesn't make weight.
Fighting with emotion is not smart and it appears that DC will be doing just that.

Nah, that was real, even DW couldn't wipe the smile off his face, he was loving what Pat was doing.

Would be a great pic if Cormier dominates Cummins in the first two rounds, then gasses in the 3rd and Cummins just wails on DC for a 3rd round TKO win.

That was the exact reasoning behind my prediction.

I really don't believe he has to win the fight at all. If he's even remotely competitive he's living the dream. I can't wait to see it play out. One things for sure. He really seems to think he can actually win and DC thinks he's gonna destroy him like the odds imply. As fans we should be happy that there is a fight at all. Kudos to both the combatants and the UFC for putting together a match with some history and intrigue in such a short time span. I'm thrilled

Agreed, this situation (Evans injury) could have easily resulted in no fight at all.
It could also have resulted in a replacement fighter of the generic sort.
This at least has a bit of a juicy story line.
I am looking forward to it.

Personally, I think this is a stupid move on the UFC's part to put this as the co-main on a PPV.
If DC wins, he was suppose to win and everyone is going to feel like they wasted money on tickets or the PPV.
If Cummins wins, he's a guy essentially off the street who just knocked off a top title contender, what does that say about the LHW division in the UFC?
This would have been fine for a Fight for the Troops or UFC on FOX card. Putting this on a PPV is a head scratcher to me.
What are we going to see next card? Jon Jones opponent gets hurt and he ends up fighting his former landlord that he forgot to pay rent to back in college that has a 1-0 record in amateur pillowfighting? (that's called hyperbole)

The fight is definitely not co-main worthy for a PPV. Maia v. MacDonald could definitely take that spot.
Still, I'm glad they got Cormier a fight. If he crushes Cummins, he can be back in 3-4 months fighting Manuwa/Gustafsson winner or even Jones/Texiera. Heck, if Tex drops out and Cormier is coming off a 2 minute KO, maybe he steps in and fights Jones at UFC 172. I'd rather see guys fight then sit on the bench. They don't know for certain how long Rashad will be out, why wait around, especially when you are on weight and probably don't have too many years left in the game.
