Self-explanatory.
I pick Iron Mike, and here's why:
Muhammad Ali always kept his left hand down in the peek-a-boo stance to get his opponents to come in so he could counter... Mike Tyson is a master of closing the distance, and in his prime KOd just about everyone from inside. Mike could negate Ali's reach and get the punches in that he needs to win.

Agreed, I have a lot of friends who are huge boxing fans. They all would say Ali, but I am going with mike, for reasons you stated.
The times Ali really got his bell rung (frasier/cooper) were by nasty rising hooks. One of Mikes specialty's and in devastating fashion.

Ali. Tyson never fought the caliber of fighters Ali did. He was a good fighter but his "prime" was so short and during that time he never fought anyone great. Holmes was the best fighter he fought and Holmes was way over the hill at the time. Tyson couldn't even beat a Buster Douglas. I think George Foreman would have KO'd Tyson and Ali beat him when he wasn't in his prime.

In their prime is the key. If Mike gets inside on anyone he will connect and that ends in a ko. Ali , IMHO, would not be able to hurt Mike early but Mike could get inside early and the fight ends in ko for that reason. Perhaps if Mike partied all weekend and messed around with a horde of Japanese groupies, as in the past, Ali could take him late Ala' Douglas. But, if you ask Mike, I bet he says Ali wins.

180 pound fighter Henry Cooper should've had a KO win over Ali, it's safe to say that Tyson if he got close enough would of sparked him out with one shot. However Ali would've been aware of that. I believe that in Alis prime(which would be before Rumble in the Jungle), he was untouchable, his speed and footwork might of made the difference in that fight, but the rope a dope approach in the seventies would definatly not have worked against Tyson, Mike would've broke something.
If Ali used his footwork he wins. If Tyson connected with a big shot at close range with many more to follow, Mike knocks him out IMO. Both are my heroes in boxing.

Ali wouldn't use rope a dope, he'd dance away from him and frustrate him while landing jab after jab
Frazier and Foreman would have just about the same power as Tyson

But worse speed, lateral movement and ability to close distance.

Ali had trouble with another smaller/compact fighter with a brutal left hook.....Joe Frazier. Mike Tyson was like Frazier 2.0....faster, more powerful with brutal KO power. The caveat would be; Tyson in his prime trained by Kevin Rooney. After Kevin Rooney was let go Tyson's career went downhill in a hurry.
In his prime Mike Tyson's hand speed was unparalleled, especially at HW. His greatest tool was the way he would rip a right hook to the body, and then rip an uppercut right after. It was a thing of beauty.

i want to say Ali would use distance and footwork and take the W....however, i sometimes forget how Tyson looked at 20 and he could have kept up early enough to land a big one. Tyson within the first couple of rounds or Ali by tko later... I voted Tyson

I like both fighters but Ali beat the best in the world of his era
Who's mikes biggest win?

Michael Spinks was 31-0 when he faced Tyson. Demolished in 91 seconds.
Larry Holmes (who beat Ali btw) was 48-2 when he faced Tyson. His only losses were to Michael Spinks. Tyson destroyed him in 4 rounds.
Trevor Berbick was the USBA & WBC HW champ. Tyson at the ripe age of 20 destroyed him.

It was Spinks last fight and his record was padded like most boxers records, Holms was pass his sell by date at that stage
My posts probably look like I'm hating on Mike, I don't mean to, he's one of my favourite fighters including mma
I just feel Ali was better and would beat him
Plus Mike wouldn't be able to handle the smack talk that Ali would be saying during the fight haha

ALL boxers records are padded. The first 20 fights or so are total cans. They don't face real competition until later. If you look at Frazier and Tyson they're almost mirrors images. Both 5'11', stocky, with big power. Tyson was just a hybrid version of Frazier. So, if Frazier was able to beat Ali when they were considered to be in their prime, I think Tyson would as well.
I still consider Ali the GOAT, but that fight would be epic. The smack talk and press conferences would be worth the price of admission.

If we're doing more polls, then we need to include The Ultimate Warrior in at least one, cuz I'm sending these to Tommy Toe Hold.
