Anything to gain an edge. It's what Las Vegas and off-shore sports bettors look for on a daily basis. As a group they stumbled onto something regarding the Chris Leben in his fight against Jake Rosholt. MMA fight lines generally don't move anymore than 30-to-40 cents but the Leben-Rosholt moved as much as a dollar in some places. Leben was as high as minus-200 in some sportsbooks. He dropped to even money by fight time. The story was the same off-shore where bettors pounded Rosholt.
Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole came on the ESPNRadio1100 UFC 102 postfight show (archive here) and revealed some interesting chatter he'd heard about Leben (Part 3 - 23:09 mark):
"A prominent fighter came over to me tonight and told me he'd made a bet on Rosholt. I was a little surprised by that. He said he knew that Leben hadn't trained at all."
That seems like the tip of the iceberg for a fight's odds to move that much. Is there more to the story?
Leben, who has battled alcoholism for much of his adult life, did mention to Cagewriter during a prefight interview (4:03 mark) that he had slipped a few times while sitting out his nine-month suspension for a positive performance enhancing drug test.
Iole went on to say, "UFC is dropping fighters on the margins, I think he's done."
Will the UFC cut Leben (18-7, 8-5 UFC)? He is a fan favorite and a good filler fighter at middleweight. Here's hoping they don't axe him because if he's struggling with some of the demons of the past it might be the worst time ever for UFC to dump him.

very interesting. the UFC should try keeping guys who actually want to train and be there as opposed to keeping guys like this. I dont see how you can train anyway when you get a new tattoo every day and it has to heal. lol

If he really didnt train, which means he'snot taking his job seriously, maybe they should cut him. Maybe he is showing a patten of behavior unbecoming of a mixed martial artist. It could possibly be the best thing for him if he gets cut, goes to rehab and refocuses his energy on fixing his life and not fixing his fight game. The UFC as a company should offer to provide him with medical and mental help if these accusations are true. If he refuses treatment, cut him and let him fight in the small shows they do in Hawaii.
Sometimes complete and udder failure is the only thing that can wake people up.

Just because a guy can't get his sh*t together doesn't mean the UFC should feel sorry for him. They've given him more than his fair share of chances.

This. The UFC can say they are against PEDs all they want but their actions towards busted fighters speak volumes. First fight back for Leben who isnt a top 5 MW is on the main card. First fight back after suspension for Sherk was a title shot. Franca gets on to main cards even though he hasnt been impressive by any meens.

Actually my dad pointed that out too. He said that Leben looks ridiculous and that he's seen him fight a lot better than that.

If it's true he should get the boot. Come back from a shamefull suspension and then pull that s---? Go win some fights somewhere else(if you can) and try and earn your way back to the UFC. He can go headline some s--- cards with Terry Martin.

Just retire Leben already. He's never been and never will be anywhere near the top. He'd do much better in some smaller promotion, against mediocre opponents, where he could go back to knocking people out. I know he's a fan favorite for some reason, but if you're trying to build organization with the best level of competition, you can't keep everyone around forever.

If Leben loses every fight he ever has, they can afford to drop him at the moment. He is the famous Chris Leben from TUF 1. That will always work in his favour.

 he doesnt have a choice now
On topic though, i dont think that Leben looked anywhere in near as good of shape as he did for the bisping fight... granted he probably wasnt juicing for this one, but he still didnt look that great. It wouldnt have surprised me if he started to head towards bottom again after his suspension. That seems to be when things bottom back out. I think that the UFC needs to sit down and have a talk with him, and find out where his head is at before making any decisions.

I doubt they cut him. Too much name value in what is probably Strikeforce's strongest division. Plus he could be competitive there.
I think, if anything, they will just freeze him out and not schedule a fight for him for like 6 months.
