I ask because taking this fight against Swanson so soon after getting dramatically KTFO seems like a move motivated by money. What does a win do for his career, legacy, or reestablishing himself after a loss like that? I don't see it. And so soon after as well.
I think Frankie owns a UFC Gym, has some kind of supplement company, and maybe a restaurant or something? Does anyone know what his actual situation is?

Frankie is just driven by competition, has never given any impression that he is driven by money.

Frankie was stopped for the first time in his career and just took a fight in his home state...I think it has far more to do with pride than money.
Frankie is a top 3 fighter, few fights actually boost him at this point. When talking about taking the Ortega fight, he talked about having a limited number of fights left, I think he is fighting solidify his legacy. He is a future hall of famer and every win over a top ten opponent reinforces that.

Then why choose to test yourself against someone you utterly dominated not that long ago? Is Cub Swanson the choice that someone interested in competition makes? When you're at Frankie's level? And it doesn't open the door for more competitive fights either.

Since top fighters dont think like forum fans the answer is yes. he still sees Cub as a top level guy who is dangerous.

And how about the turn around time? Do you think that's wise?

Anyway, my question of more if anyone knows his actually financial situation or what he is invested in. Whether or not the Swanson fight is a good idea is is probably better covered in the Swanson vs Edgar thread.

I think mauling Cub again looks to Frankie like the best way to get another top three fight, but as we've discussed in the Frankie vs Cub thread, where does that leave him? Set for a rematch with one of the two guys who have given him the most decisive losses of his career?
I think, very simply, he want's back in the winning column before he even thinks about the big picture, and the Cub fight is a smart bet.......so yeah, pride.

That part, no. But again, that's more of a pride issue. He just got paid and his check isn't exactly small so he doesn't need another payday.

Frankie's bank account got caught in an omoplata... it needs your help immediately before it's forced to tap out.
Send money to OSU, and he'll forward it onto Frankie.

If Frankie needs money, I am sure his buddy Kadyrov would help him out.

Lets just go by his fights in his current weight class
Aldo/Edgar I - $120,000 + 50,000 FOTN Bonus
Edgar/ Oliveira - $240,000 + 50,000 FOTN Bonus
Edgar/Penn III - $260,000
Edgar/ Swanson I - No reported pay out + 50,000 POTN Bonus
Edgar/Faber - No reported pay out
Edgar/Mendes - $360,000 + 50,000 POTN Bonus
Aldo/Edgar II - $190,000
Edgar/ Stephens - No reported pay out
Edgar/Rodríguez - No reported pay out
Ortega/Edgar - $195,000
Between the Swanson and Faber fights there was no reported pay outs, but if we look at the penn fight he made 130 to show, 130 to win and for the mendes it was 180 to show 180 to win so we have to assume his pay out for both those wins were at the very least +200,000. We got ot think the same thing about Edgar Stephens and Edgar Rodriguez. But even highter becaue he was making more then looking at Mendes and Aldo fight but still lets be nice and stick with 200 for those fights.
So in five years, with out confirmed numbers which are likely higher for the four cards with unreported pay outs, including of the night bonuses. He has made somewhere in the ball part of 2,365,000. If his bank account is in dire need then thats on him.
I think its more a case of pride and wanting to fight in his home town kind of thing. He was talking even before this Ortega fight that he wanted a spot on that card. So I don't think its a financial thing at all. I think its him wanting to put that loss he just suffered out of his mind and get back on track.

I know people who know Frankie personally, he is fine financially. Moved into an even nicer house than before just recently too.
Frankie even had he beat Ortega expressed he wanted to fight at home, hes constantly missed the chance to fight in Jersey for his friends and family. Few years back, he was pushing for that Faber fight ot be in Jersey but they put it in the Phillippines while Rockhold vs Machida main evented the jersey card

I'm glad you said it. There are a lot of fighters I like outside of the ring, and a lot that I don't, I almost always wish them well outside of the sport, because they deserve it, they are gladiators. That being said, they're often like comedians; a ton of happiness, comfort, and stability isn't very good fuel for the fire. Not always the case, but often.

Maybe he just likes Cub Swanson, can't wait to get those hands wrapped around his body, pressing him against the fence. Just like his old wrasslin' coach used to do back in Jersey when he was a kid.
I'll see myself out.
