No. Things were a bit more formal and I think things were posted when Performify first opened the forums and was running things, but the culture of the forum has settled in over the years where things are operating pretty smoothly without the need for a lot of set-in-concrete rules. The general theme still exists of shooting for a more civil environment than has traditionally existed at other MMA forums, while still allowing people to express themselves. Compared to years in the past, the amount of moderation we have to do here these days is pretty small. If you have any specific questions, fire away.

Hi Brick, thanks for the response. I was curious what the rules pertaining to linking from other websites is? At Sherdog, if you link to a blog, and it is percieved as trying to detract from SHerdog by "stealing" their business, they will ban you, or so it says in their policy. Do you guys do anything like that?

So you just gonna ignore everyone else's comments?
Rule #1 - always acknowledge the posts of others.

Any hint of spam will be ruthlessly and promptly dealt with via permaban. Usually that is some new person and easily spotted. But established posters posting an occasional reference to another random spot for purposes of discussion is fine. If a pattern is sensed that is promoting one particular joint, that becomes a problem. If the person posting the link is associated with the link, even once, also a problem.

Seawalls are the most important part of your waterfront property. In order to maintain your property value, you must secure and maintain your seawall.
If you notice a loss of soil, cracking, sinking or rotation of your seawall cap, it is imperative that you have your seawall repaired.
True story.

If your first, second, and third posts are all links to your blog or some company/entity/product you're presumed to be affiliated with, you'll get banned.
If you occasionally link to a CNN or FOXNews story, or some YouTube video, you'll be fine.
If you start posting a ton of links to uber specific products, you'll get warned and eventually banned if you continue to do it.
(pretty much what Brick said)

Can promote your own articles and blogs on occasion if you are an established poster as well correct.

How about trying to be a halfway decent person online like (I presume) you present yourself to be IRL?

There is an idea of a LHK (some kind of abstraction) but there is no real me. Only an entity... something illusory. Though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there.

Incorrect; shouldn't really be doing that either here.

Possible I suppose, we don't read everything, and besides Performify was the massive enforcer on that (he would permaban at any hint of personal promotion), but 13 and I have no financial interest in the site like he did so, while we try to enforce the rules and do our thing, we're not total Nazis about it. Plus, if it's someone's OT article or whatever that's probably more acceptable, but anyone trying to promote rival MMA discussions is pretty clearly no bueno.

What's the difference between a "post" and a "message"?

A post is commonly made from wood and attached to a fence, whilst a message can come with a happy ending.
