I was a FaberHater for a few years. I almost always cheered against him. I thought he was arrogant, corny, etc. Until I met him in person. He could not have been more classy, down-to-earth, and professional. So I gotta cheer for him against Menjivar (even though I am a fan of Menjivar).
I pretty much had the opposite experience with Frankie Edgar. I always enjoyed watching him fight, but he is not very friendly in real life. I think he wants to be black or something

Faber is a cool guy, and he definitely was a pioneer for the sport's smaller weight classes. P4P, I would say that he was at a time in the top 10, but now he's passed his prime and is pretty much guaranteed to get into the UFC Hall Of Fame.
But getting to your point with Edgar, you may have just caught him at a bad time. Fans like us contribute to a lot of the talk that annoys him to death: dropping to 145, his lack of a finishing rate, the closeness of his decisions... hearing that stuff over a long period of time can get on a dude's nerves, and maybe someone made him angry when you met him... or it's just a Jersey thing.
