It seems like fans don't value submissions as valid.

Silva submits Sonnen after getting tooled for four rounds and many call for a rematch.
If Silva had thrown one punch and knocked out Sonnen after getting tooled for four rounds, would you call for a rematch?
A finish is a finish. To me, submissions are a more brutal way to end a fight and that's why we don't let them go all the way to fruition.
Calling for a rematch is disrespecting BJJ in my opinion.

Nothing has value.
Carwin's stock dropped 100% in 30 seconds, from round 1(he was the greatest HW today) to round 2(he sucks). I still can't believe that he's made Lesnar turtle and gets no credit even though he had knock outs of HW's GG and Mir going into that fight...
Same with last nights fights. Sonnen was amazing, he should get credit for an amazing gameplan and fight. Silva withstood everything Sonnen had and forced him to admit that he was defeated by physically submitting, he should get credit to.
It's just the way the the sport is.

I disagree that a submission is a more brutal way to win a fight. It certainly CAN be, but not always. But also the chances of a sub happening in the 23rd minute of a 25 minute fight are substantially lower than in the first 10 minutes.
The thing to take away from last nights fight is that Andersons jitz is underrated. He's now submitted 2 of the best wrestlers to compete in the mw division.

i respectfully have to disagree. had silva knocked sonnen out that late in the fight, id still want to see a rematch. because sonnen proved himself to be the biggest threat so far for anderson.
i didnt however want to see the frankie penn rematch and had alves won i wouldnt have been interested in that rematch either.

I would still want a rematch, for one, because the fight was awesome, not because he got subbed.

My point is that if Silva ended the fight with one punch after getting tooled for 4.5 rounds, many of those folk who are calling for an immediate rematch wouldn't be so vocal. Silva ended the fight with a slick sub, which could have left Sonnen unconscious or with a severe fracture, which doesn't stop many from demanding an immediate rematch. Therefore, it to call for an immediate rematch means you think a KO >> a BJJ submission.

man, no one is insulting bjj. sonnen gave silva his biggest test since he got to the UFC and if he had played it safe or if he hadn't gotten sloppy he would have won. Now, if he had won and people called for a rematch would it mean they are disrespecting lopsided unanimous decisions? The calls for rematch is based on how the fight went from beginning to end, not how silva won.

This is hilarious. This has nothing to do with the way the fight ended, this has to do with the fact that Silva got his *** kicked for 23 straight minutes and pulled it out with 2 minutes to spare.

Didn't get his *** kicked that bad... still had the awareness to make Chael quit with less than 2 mins to go.

ok so those 23 minutes dont mean anything theres a reason its 5 5 minute rounds sonnen beat him for 23 minutes and it only took Anderson less then 2 to put sonnen away

That's the dumbest thing i've ever heard. Of course those 23 minutes matter. Especially in the context of this thread. People are hugging way to hard on Silvas nuts today.

You're obviously completely missing what I said in the context of the thread. I said that people are calling for a rematch because of those 23 minutes, not because Silva won by Sub instead of KO or decision.

Honestly, I'm just happy I haven't seen people saying things like "He never tapped!" or "That was a phantom tap" or "Rosenthal had no idea what he was doing" or "This is just like when Vince McMahon screwed Bret Hart!"

He definitely tapped prematurely, and once he tapped I think he realized he was safe and wished he hadn't, but yeah, he definitely tapped.
