No one should downplay how important this is for the sport. Spike only hits a few households but we're talking Fox that plays NFL football every week AND the World Series. The UFC is amazing for bringing this thing to where it is now on a National...hell GLOBAL level.

In most of the divisions its come that way.
Cruz runs around and points people with mostly boxing and Aldo starting to as well
Edgar always has
GSP has become jab central.
A Silva uses feet and hands but great boxing
JBJ reach and jab, and uses legs
HW Champ Great Boxer. JDS

I have to be honest I think you're downplaying what happens during the fights. GSP/Edgar/Jones have all utilized takedowns for either GNP/sub attempts, this makes the opponents very weary of just opening up on them (see Rampage vs. Jones, Penn vs. Edgar) because they have to be mindful of being put on their backs in a flash. Cruz has a crazy boxing style so yeah I'll give you that one. Silva uses a counter-punching style set up by kicks/crazy s---. I don't buy that Aldo is mostly boxing either, he had mount on Florian a few times in that fight and knew he could beat Florian wherever that fight went. So I agree with you that it's a very important part of their game, but certainly not the main reason why they've been so successful. They can all adapt to other styles.

Dana just said, us MMA folk, live in "a bubble... of triangle chokes and armbars"...
I think he's right.
And I'm going to miss it, in a way.

I just hope the UFC doesn't change too much with its impending popularity boost. The best part of going to the live events were how accessible the fighters and the UFC personalities are.

GSP did that against Sheilds, because of the ground game that Jake possess. And, GSP does use kicks, takedowns, and submission attempts.
Silva wins by about everything he uses. Kicks, knees, hands, elbows, submissions... doesn't seem top matter for him
Jon Jones uses wrestling, GnP, strange standup, and submissions
Edgar also uses his wrestling quite a bit

I'm really not seeing it. They should have shown the compelling undercard fights so folks would realize that the UFC isn't solely dependent on the main event like boxing.
