The Main Card...
Title Fight
J-1 Global 28 marked an end to a tremendous run for buffaloblue and crowned DanielsanFTW the new champion.
Round 1
After a filling out period the challenger,
DanielsanFTW (11-6)
gained the attention of the champion by shooting and securing a text book single leg takedown. The round ended with DanielsanFTW on top and winning the first round.
Round 2
The second round started off much of the same, with both guys circling each other and trading jabs. While
buffaloblue (17-5)
landed the hardest punch of the round, DanielsanFTW wrapped up the second with swift counter strikes throughout the round.
Round 3
It was apparent at the start of the third buffaloblue had decided to turn up the heat. He quickly took the center and tried setting DanielsanFTW up for a knockout blow. Like the previous two rounds, DanielsanFTW kept his composure and relied on perfect timing to take the champion down to the ground. DanielsanFTW stayed busy on top and did enough in the referee's eyes to not warrant a break. From the bottom though buffaloblue was extremely active with a variety of submission attempts. One judge scored it 10-9 for DanielsanFTW, another judge scored it 10-10 and the third judge gave it to the champion 10-9.
Round 4
Going into the “championship rounds,” the champ still wasn't sure where he stood on the points so far. Listening to his corner he came out guns blazing, firing off a machine gun type of kicks and punches. Most of the attempted strikes either missed it's spot or was blocked by DanielsanFTW. It was apparent after 25+ strikes in a row, buffaloblue had tentatively gassed himself. DanielsanFTW quick as a cat, clinched up against the cage and was able to pick the champ up and slam him to the ground. With two minutes left to go, DanielsanFTW knew oppurtunity was knocking, he worked himself to side control and secured the eventual fight-ending arm-triangle choke.
The win not only crowns DanielsanFTW champion for the first time here, but he also becomes the first ever quad crown champion at Junkie Fantasy Fighting. From everyone here at J-1 Global, congratulations.
#1 Contender's Fight
trig def. WarJorge by Unanimous Decision (78 -73)
Round 1
With the winner getting a shot at the belt in the next J-1 Global event, both guys literally laid it all out in the first. Within the first minute
trig (12-11-1)
hurt
WarJorge (9-8)
with a front kick that sent WarJorge stumbling backwards and eventually to the floor. The referee did a terrific job of letting this fight go on as before trig could follow up on his hurt opponent, WarJorge managed to get back to his feet and slip everything thrown at him until he gained most of his senses back. With the frustrated trig not being able to capitalize on his almost finished opponent he carelessly left himself wide open to and WarJorge did not hesitate. In a blink of an eye WarJorge unleashed a spinning back elbow that cut open trig right below his left eye. trig fell to the ground and was able to hold guard while the round came to an end. (All three judges scored it a 10-10 round).
Round 2
The cut man in trig's corner did a solid job patching up his cut. Both guys answered the bell much more cautiously. Neither initiated much action throughout the round. Other than some clinching and short shots by both guys up against the cage, the second was a far cry from the fireworks display both men showed in the first five minutes. With a minute left, trig saw an oppurtunity to seal the round. As in his last fight, he scored a takedown with a inside leg trip. The extra judo training at UA has really been paying off. (All three judges scored it a 10-9 round).
Round 3
The third was again lackluster, WarJorge couldn't get any rhythm and land any significant shots in the fight. Listening to his corner, trig played it safe and stayed away from danger. He landed and got out, he did just enough to earn the round and win the fight by Unanimous Decision. (All three judges scored it 29-28 for the winner trig).
The win here gives trig his second attempt at J-1 Global gold.
Contender Fight #1
Tai_Mai_Shu def. dock59 by Submission (93 – 74)
Tai_Mai_Shu (14-7-1)
had
dock59 (7-19-1)
on his heels from the start. Tai_Mai_Shu wasted little time getting this fight to the ground. Once there, it was clear why he wanted it on the canvas. After two failed submission attempts, Tai_Mai_Shu finally sunk in a rear naked choke. The problem though was dock59 had done a good job keeping his chin sunk in and not letting his opponent fully tighten the choke attempt. It was close but dock59 managed to make it to the bell. The second wasn't any different. dock59 just couldn't fight off Tai_Mai_Shu enough to stay on the feet. Midway through the second Tai_Mai_Shu again gained the back and this time made sure to take his time before fully sinking in the real naked choke. dock59 fought as hard as he could before the ref stepped in as dock59 was about to go out. Tai_Mai_Shu was awarded the Submission of the Night award, not necessarily because of the certain choke but more for his precision, patience he displayed.
Contender Fight #2
kylesid def. MidwestHammerfest by Submission (83 - 69)
In the first fight of the main card,
MidwestHammerfest (10-6)
almost ended the fight towards the end of the round. He managed to grab the head off the clinch against the fence and quickly dropped to his back. Being in full guard and time expiring it wasn't enough as
kylesid (3-3)
escaped being finished. Middle of the second MidwestHammerfest again had kylesid in a submission. This time it was a standard armbar from guard, but kylesid didn't care as he showed no emotion of pain. Just as it seemed kylesid's arm was about to snap, he rolled away and managed to escape another submission. Up two round to none, MidwestHammerfest thought he had this fight. But the third proved to be costly, this time kylesid found himself in top control after a scramble. kylesid knew he had to finish this fight and once he wrapped the body lock on he went to work. kylesid had MidwestHammerfest in serious trouble with his own rear naked choke. With the choke in place and the body lock in, kylesid managed the next 30 seconds to finally get MidwestHammerfest to tap.
The Undercard..
-
Silvaftw (17-7)
showed again why he's a legit J-1 Global fighter with a workman's like performance against a top tier fighter in
skullcracker4hire (21-7)
. Silvaftw won all three rounds with clean strikes and controlling most of the action.
-In what ended up being the closest fight of the night,
Castellammarese (15-11-2)
won by a split decision over
JimmyCannoli (9-17)
. Though both fighter's overall record would represent a heavy favorite between the two surely that hasn't been the case when these two hook horns. All three rounds were razor thin close, and it showed on the judge's cards. It's the fourth time these two squared off and just like the last three fights, it went to a decision. One judge scored it 29-28 for JimmyCannoli and the other two judges scored it 29-28 for Castellammarese.
-
Morbid (12-9-1)
continued his skid by being submitted in the third against
TaperSteve (6-10-1)
. TaperSteve won the first two rounds and again showed off his array of spinning strikes. This time he connected with a spinning backfist late in the first. Early in the third, Morbid misses with a front kick and slips. TaperSteve dives in and sits back for a leglock. He wrenches the heel hook on Morbid's left leg. Morbid screams and taps out at 45 seconds of the third round. Morbid limps out of the cage under his own power.
-In a stunning comeback,
metalmike00 (18-8-1)
roared back to beat
smcdonald5 (3-3-1)
by unanimous decision. In what seemed to be the end of the fight, smcdonald5 almost forced metalmike00 to tap late in the first. Trying to get more leverage in his rear naked choke, smcdonald5 tried changing grips and it cost him as metalmike00 escaped out. In the second, metalmike00 showed excellent timing, blasting smcdonald5 with a right hand before the knee impacts its target. smcdonald5 opened up with his hands and the fighters trade lefts and rights to the head. metalmike00 gets the best of the exchange. The fighters touch gloves after the violence. Both fighters
