The Main Card...
Title Fight
DanielsanFTW holds on to keep the title after tough back-and-forth fight at J-1 Global 30
DanielsanFTW def. kylesid by Unanimous Decision (80-76)
Round 1
DanielsanFTW (13-6)
came out launching a head kick right away but missed, falling to his back.
kylesid (4-4)
rushed in with punches that all missed. Instead, DanielsanFTW locked up a deep guillotine and used it to put kylesid on his back. kylesid would eventually got out after a serious struggle, but DanielsanFTW instantly transitioned to a triangle choke. kylesid would manage to punch his way out of the hold and get the fight back to the feet with a minute left. Both fighters scramble and kylesid lands in DanielsanFTW's full guard. kylesid would land a couple punches from the top to close the round. (All three Judges: 10-9 DanielsanFTW)
Round 2
kylesid faked a takedown shot to start the second. Then shot for real and secured the takedown but wasn't able to keep position. DanielsanFTW nearly took his back on the ground, but kylesid moved into DanielsanFTW's guard. DanielsanFTW would batter him from the bottom. Not wanting to escape another submission attempt, kylesid stands up in DanielsanFTW's open guard, and dives back down landing a right hand. Quickly kylesid was back standing in DanielsanFTW's open guard, where DanielsanFTW seemed content to be. DanielsanFTW finally tried to kick him away to close the round, but that lead to kylesid diving back down and scoring a few more punches and finishing the round on top. (All three judges: 10-9 kylesid)
Round 3
DanielsanFTW flurried forward with kicks and punches with nothing landing. DanielsanFTW lunged in with a body shot that missed, and kylesid easily took him down again with a double-leg. DanielsanFTW missed a triangle attempt on the ground, allowing kylesid to pass to side control. DanielsanFTW would get kylesid back into butterfly guard. DanielsanFTW would kick his opponent away and get the fight back standing. After missing a single, kylesid dumps DanielsanFTW with an outside trip. DanielsanFTW would stand quickly, but kylesid re-shoots a double and gets the champion back down ending the round. (All three judges: 10-9 kylesid)
Round 4
DanielsanFTW switches things up by attempting his own takedown. kylesid, easily defends it, but DanielsanFTW wrapped up the same modified guillotine he tried in the first and used it to take down kylesid. Two minutes in, kylesid escapes and threw a body kick. His next takedown attempt is from too far letting DanielsanFTW just back away. kylesid dives in again from too far out, and DanielsanFTW slips out of his grasp. kylesid turns to a single-leg, but DanielsanFTW stopped it too and popped him with an uppercut. The champ continued to push the pace while kylesid's shot have slowed considerably. In the last 20 seconds DanielsanFTW tagged kylesid with a sharp high kick to the head and swept kylesid to the floor. (All three judges: 10-9 DanielsanFTW)
Round 5
In the opening 10 seconds, kylesid would be denied a takedown from DanielsanFTW causing both fighters to clinch up against the cage. Neither fighter would score much in that position, making the referee step in and break them up and get back to the center. Halfway through the round, its obvious DanielsanFTW is the fresher of the two. With a wild overhand left that just missed DanielsanFTW's face, kylesid stumbled off balance. DanielsanFTW would follow him down to the ground, but kylesid rolled out and reversed the position. Immediately DanielsanFTW tried an omoplata from his back. DanielsanFTW then went to a triangle and an armbar. A fatiguing kylesid somehow escaped the armbar but fell back into an omoplata. DanielsanFTW then torques a kimura as the bell rings. (All three Judges: 10-9 DanielsanFTW)
The score cards are read like so... All three judges score the fight 48-47 for DanielsanFTW still J-1 Global Champion!
#1 Contender's Fight
Castellammarese def. Silvaftw by Unanimous Decision (97-87)
Round 1
Castellammarese (17-11-2)
rushed in low and let his hands go,
Silvaftw (18-8)
avoided everything. Castellammarese floored Silvaftw with a sinister overhand right. Castellammarese pounced, but the ex-J-1 Global champion cleared his head in time to scramble back up to his feet. Castellammarese delivered a hard loopy-left hand and backed up Silvaftw, who started developing a massive red welt on his left eye and nose. Castellammarese crashed another left hand to the head and Silvaftw just raised him arms, taunting him as the bell rang. (All three Judges: 10-9 Castellammarese)
Round 2
A minute in, and the action isn't as frantic as the last round. The two feint strikes, then trade left jabs. While stalking his nemesis, Silvaftw delivered a low kick and then a kick to the ribs, then another. There was a gruesome welt on the right side of Castellammarese due to all the punishing kicks from Silvaftw. Castellammarese shot in for a single, but was stuffed and Silvaftw quickly took his back. Silvaftw unloaded a barrage of punches, but Castellammarese defended all of them well and scrambled back to his feet. (All three Judges: 10-9 Silvaftw)
Round 3
With both fighters knowing it was close so far, their title hopes hinged on this round. Silvaftw came right out and fired two hard kicks to the body. Castellammarese's mouth was bloody and he started to slow down. Silvaftw's left eye started to close up causing concern from his corner. Silvaftw's nose started to bleed thanks to a hard-left jab from his counterpart. With both guys beat up the pace slowed down considerably. Each guy stood toe-to-toe the last minute trying to land that one big strike to cap off the fight. It never happened but once Castellammarese shook his opponent with a spot on uppercut he sized the round with a takedown where the round and fight would end.
The win gives Castellammarese a fourth shot at the J-1 Global belt.
Contender Fight #1
buffaloblue def. smcdonald5 by Submission (85-74)
You can add another submission victory for
buffaloblue (19-5)
who now has 6 submission wins in a row. Just like the preview stated,
smcdonald5 (4-4-1)
had his hands full. The first round buffaloblue controlled most of the round in the stand-up as smcdonald5 couldn't gauge the proper distance to get off any of his own shots. Finally two minutes in the second round, smcdonald5 was able to land a nice combination that resulted in buffaloblue falling back and eventually dropping to guard. When the round ended smcdonald5 was still in top position and wondering if he should scrap the original plan to keep the fight standing and try taking down buffaloblue in the third. With his corner's advise smcdonald5 came out faked a overhand right and shot in. This time though buffaloblue sprawled, locked in a standing guillotine and pulled guard. It was very deep already buffaloblue sealed it by torquing with everything he had left. smcdonald5 couldn't pull out, and tapped.
Contender Fight #2
WarJorge def. pilqs by Unanimous Decision (97-91)
These two knockout fighters took each others best, and neither was finished.
WarJorge (11-8)
out-slugged
pilqs (6-3)
in a three round battle that never hit the floor. WarJorge won the first & third rounds by some fascinating boxing, moving in and out and setting up pilqs with sharp footwork. It was the second round where pilqs was most effective, countering WarJorge each time he came in. With a cut under his right eye in the first, pilqs managed to avoid getting hit there throughout the rest of the fight. Late in the third WarJorge sealed his win with a flying knee, followed up with four straight punches to the head that sent pilqs up against the cage where the fight ended.
The Undercard..
-J-1 Global loves battles, and the fight between
JonnyRico (9-9)
and
Strez (2-2)
was one of the best of the night. Strez won the first by taking down JonnyRico late in the first with a powerful slam that brought the crowd to its feet. The second round had the crowd on its feet once again when JonnyRico locked in a standing guillotine and had his opponent in deep trouble. The hold wasn't firmly under the chin and not wanting to gas out his arms and strength JonnyRico would let the hold go. The third was debatable as Strez took down JonnyRico twice but had to escape numerous submission attempts. One of the submission attempts by JonnyRico was an arm-in triangle choke that had saw the referee
