UFC 184: Jacare Souza vs. Yoel Romero added to Staples Center card
The UFC is bringing its top middleweights to Los Angeles.
In addition to featuring Chris Weidman defending his 185-pound championship against No. 2 Vitor Belfort at UFC 184, the UFC confirmed Thursday that No. 3 Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will be taking on No. 6 Yoel Romero on Feb. 28 at Staples Center.
Souza (21-3, 1 NC) has won his past seven fights, including all four of his UFC bouts. His last victory came via unanimous decision over top-10 opponent Gegard Mousasi in September. Coincidentally, Souza and Mousasi were supposed to be the co-main event for UFC 176 at Staples Center in August before the UFC had to cancel the event because of fighter injuries.
Romero (9-1) has also won all four of his fights inside the Octagon. He rose up the rankings with his third-round TKO victory over top-10 opponent Tim Kennedy in September.
This is the fourth fight announced for UFC 184. On Wednesday, the UFC confirmed eighth-ranked former heavyweight title challenger Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-6, 1 NC) would be facing 13th-ranked former heavyweight champion Frank Mir (16-9).
The co-main event pits women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (10-0) against No. 1 contender Cat Zingano (9-0).
Tickets for UFC 184 go on sale at 2 p.m. Friday.

I like Romero but Jacare has better striking than Kennedy and has good TDD and also good wrestling... this could be a bad night for Romero

umm.... why does anybody think this fight will happen.... two middleweight contenders on the same card as Belfort fighting for a title seems pretty obvious.
Good match up though if it happens,.

I think Jacare is as far as Romero goes.

exactly. i'm not complaining, cause Romero hit Kennedy harder than i've seen almost anyone hit in years with that thunder punch...

Great fight. Rockhold is the backup plan. If any one of these guys fall out (Belfort, Weidman, Jacare, Romero) then he can step up and would be deserving to fight any of those guys.

maybe, but it seems that Romero/Souza is a back up plan is either Weidman or Belfort can't go and Rockhold is a back up back up plan.

This is a brilliant move by the UFC. If Belfort can't go you move Jacare into the title fight and have Rockhold step in to fight Romero. If Belfort does fight you have a bona fide #1 contender fight on the same card.

Got the feeling Jacare is ducking Rockhold. I mean, the offer to have the rematch was on the table. Jacare & his camp refused. Think Helwani said on UFC Tonight that he wanted Romero/Machida? Whatever the case, should still be an entertaining fight. UFC 184 is really shaping up to be an awesome card
