With him sitting next to Okami at the post press conference I thought that could be an intriguing grappling chess match if they fought..
Then I started boring myself just thinking about the c---,so no I wouldn't look forward to seeing that, but I do like both..

So you can appreciate the art of Jiu-Jitsu? I suspect you can appreciate the art of MMA too, otherwise you wouldn't be here. But 20 years ago, many people didn't appreciate MMA. And not because they couldn't, but more likely because they chose to remain ignorant.
Jake Shields put on an great display of grappling last night, he just wasn't able to finish Herman. He even used his strikes, those soft ones that no one likes to create opening to transition.

Palhares is a much more aggressive grappler. Shields would have a punchers chance if Rousimar came in mentally prepared.

It wasn't a barn burner or anything, but it was a good display of grappling. Jake is very good at getting dominant position. I think he plays it a little safe though, and could benefit from taking a few risks here or there.
Anyone else baffled by Herman's game plan? He immediately came out and clinched and started trying for take downs. I'm not sure if he was trying to prove something or actually thought he was gonna out grapple Shields?

never been a big fan of Jake Shields but his last two fights could be blamed on his opponents coming in with bad game plans. Ed and Sexyama could have easily dominated the stand up but chose not to. Hate on shields you want but Herman should have stopped clinching and stay striking he would have put shields out but instead gassed trying to our grapple one of the best grapplers in MMA.

He was actually losing the standup and I think those Body Kicks were throwing his timing off and bothering him a bit. I was completely pissed off about his performance. I like Herman a lot but he lost some points with me last night. Dude needs to fight to his strength, and thats to brawl.... He was clearly the stronger of the two, and initiated the grappling and lost... I am not sure why he Kept doing it... I dunno... One of the weirdest performance I have ever seen.

Jake Shields is my favorite fighter, there I said it. He knows what he's good at, and does it at a high level. His 14 fight win streak with wins over the likes of Condit, Menne, Okami, Daley, Pyle, Lawler, Mayhem, Hendo, & Kampman is one of the more impressive streaks in MMA history. He's a grinder but he has finishes in 13 of his 28 wins. He's a top 10 MW, deal with it.

He tapped to Mayhem...lol, just messin  The Condit, Okami fights were a long time ago. The Hendo & Kampmann were his only two recent notable wins, hes lucky he didnt go to sleep against Hendo, and the Kampmann fight was just Ugly. Good matchup for him...
His ground-game is way ahead of almost anyone in the game. With his wrestling and Jui-jitzu combined, but I dont see him finishing anyone lately against TOP competition. Hes boring as s---, doesnt take ANY risk, and has fought a ton of guys that are bread and butter for his style...
He will always with his skillset be able to stay near the top, around 10. Do I see him beating anyone Above Herman in the middle-weight division... Probably not.... I think Okami beats him in a re-match. He wont get past Belfort, Belcher, Bisping, Lombard, or even Stann for that matter. They all stuff his takedowns and have a field day or the most boring match ever....

God shields is horrible........just bad.
i can't believe how much rogan and mike were propping him up.........they were all over the guy. I halfway suspect that after this win he gets the next shot at Silva, just like the kampman BS.

Welcome back RP!
I like dynamic grappling. Sheilds while very effective is far from exciting with his grappling. As I said in the event thread I have no need to see him fight ever again. The guy makes the mount position dull.

i can't believe that anyone would call him horrible or bad. that's ridiculous. it's horrible...just bad.
he's boring as f--- pretty much everytime, but he wins and he wins a ton. he's incredibly effective and consistent in a sport that encourages inconsistency. that makes him good. at the absolute worst.
when you'r 28-6 after fighting at/near the highest level of your weight class for 5-7 years, with your only losses in the last 7 years coming to GSP and a flash ko to Ellenberger, you cannot be bad.
rogan and goldie were all over him because he's a very very good fighter who was obviously the better fighter in the fight. he was also the biggest name.
people are crazy.

ok i will admit......he is great at grappling........but thats it. His submission skills are extremely over exaggerated. He is so awkward to watch when he is standing........striking horrible
Normally i don't say this but the guy doesn't "beat" anyone.......he just squeaks by.
i'll add in that he hasn't fought at the top.......close to the top but he is just an average mma fighter that somehow beats people.
