Pretty good fight for how short it was. Sandman landed a beautiful superman punch before he got caught.. and came back with a great KO

that was looking bad for irvin for a bit. damn near had the fight stopped on him. must suck to go from the ufc to fighting in front of a couple hundred people in a gymnasium.

Rosenthal jumped in to stop the fight and gave Irvin a freebie. He is such a shitty ref. Either let them fight or stop it, don't make the guy ease up and then no stop it. Irvin shoulda lost that fight imo.

Um he decided to stop himself cause Irvin was getting up...pretty sure thats what a GOOD ref is supposed. Irvin got dropped but wasnt done.

Then he shouldn't have stepped in and kept the guy from hitting him. That's what SHITTY refs do. The 2 or 3 shots that the guy hesitated to throw because the ref stepped in could have put Irvin to sleep for good.
"STOP! DON'T HIT HIM! Oh nevermind, he's ok now that you stopped, continue."

DeAnda didnt stop attacking...You say that like its impossible for someone to look like theyre done, and as you you go to stop it you notice he is starting to defend himself.what else are you going to do? continute the stoppage and f--- over irvin?

I agree that the ref shouldn't jump in, push one fighter off the other, then let the fight continue. Consider the same thing happening with a submission: one guy locks in an armbar, the ref jumps in, the guy lets go of the armbar, then the ref decides the other fighter is able to continue, so he restarts the action.
I disagree that one mistake makes Rosenthal a bad ref.

Rosenthal pushed him backwards about a foot, and instead of throwing punches to the head from the side, he has to throw from behind Irvin, which not only stopped him from throwing a couple punches but now his shots aren't as powerful.
Yes, if you step in and push a guy off, you should stop the fight, not hinder the guy thats attacking and then let it continue. Either way he was screwing someone over, in this case he screwed over the guy with no name. He shouldn't have stepped in while assessing the situation, he should have stood back and let it play out before stepping in.
Rosenthal is one of the better refs, right behind Big John, but this was a bad job done on his part on that night.

If the ref felt he needed to stop the action, then Irwin isn't being screwed over. It seems as though you think no fighter has ever complained about a stoppage before.

No he didn't. He might have made slight contact while trying to get a better view while also putting himself in position to stop it if he needed to.

I like how Irvin knew he knocked the guy out with the punch and just walked away.

This isn't the "Out of Context" thread. Go ahead and finish the quote.
"Rosenthal is one of the better refs, right behind Big John
, but this was a bad job done on his part on that night.
"
Before you reply, go back and watch the video. I may have exaggerated when I said he pushes him back a foot, but he pushes the guy and gets in between them for a sec while he's trying to finish, even if Irvin wasn't out, it gave Irvin just enough time to stand all the way back up instead of getting pummeled some more. Fact is, this night, he was a shitty ref.

One perceived bad action does not a bad ref make.
You're right, you did exaggerate.

"He is such a s***ty ref."
"That's what s***ty refs do."
Your tirade didn't take hold quite like you thought it was going to, got called out on the hate for Rosenthal, couple people tell you that Rosenthal is actually a pretty good ref.... so we get this:
"Rosenthal is one of the better refs, right behind Big John"
From "shitty" to standing alongside who is genearlly considered the best ref in the business, ever.... The Granddaddy of them all, Big John.
That's classic.
