Ok guys, Bellator is coming up starting in april with its 2nd 12-week season.
I am looking for a different fantasy concept for JEC fighters that wont be to complicated but can take us through a season.
I wont do a direct nfl style season and I am trying to stay away from world cup style as well with pool play for certain reasons.
If you have any concepts or ideas how to tie all this into a 12 week season please let me know.
One thought I had was a crazy double elimnation bellator tournament.
No title fights, but you win the Bellator tournament.
We have about 4 MFC, 4 Challengers, 8 Strikeforce, 6 Dream, 6 Sengoku, Shine Fights (2), 10 WEC - thats 40 regular JEC events a year.
Having 64 migth be a bit of overkill imo so thats where thoughts of taking a different approach with Bellator came to mind.

why not just do something like what weekly did last bellator season?
maybe that's the tournament you're thinking of though already.

and just place everyone in the bracket according to what their ranks are at the time it starts...so whoever the 4 highest ranks are, get the 4 #1 seeds and so on.

Yeah the winners advance the losers are done and can just fight on the undercard OR make a consolation bracket. The title is on the line every fight or no title fights till the final 4 of the main bracket or in the consolation bracket.

What you guys are talking about is a GP which we already have.
I am looking for something with no title fights probably.
At least thats the way I am leaning.
I dont wanna do a cumulative score either, as that takes people out of it early and they lose interest.

I like the idea of double elimination or some type of roped off season. One idea for incenting people to commit and stay till the end is schedule all fights for fighters who commit upfront. If they don't make weight, they get a JEC loss for a scheduled fight. Everyone knows up front, everyone has to abide.
The only thing about not using Bellator for title fights, is that some of these cards are actually going to be really, really good and the tournament structure keeps them evenly matched. That will make them better than pretty much everything but WEC and DREAM (my strikeforce FF criticisms are well publicized).
But if you don't want to use them for title fights, you should create a structure, either round robin, double elimination, or something, and let people know up front it is a 12 event commitment. Even if its not a GP, it should have SOME kind of determined winner so its for some type of bragging rights at least.

Yeah thats what I am thinknig.
64 events with the title on the line just seems insanely high.
And there is a chance its not quite that many.
I like the idea of a double elimination tournament.
I gotta work out just how many events we would be looking at.

When you mean NFL style do you mean like a season with a certain number of games?

Yeah, I have used that elsewhere.
It works, but to fit it into a 12 week season would be a bit of a challenge honestly.

I like double elimination or maybe take everyone and split them into 4 regions, then do a round robin type thing. Have everyone play each other in the 4 regions, then the top 2 in each region come out for an 8 man tourney to end it. Obviously, it would depend on how many people are going to participate to figure out how many people would be in each region.

Last year, Weekly did a Battle Royal. You pick the fights for each event, and it is based on your score over the entire season. Highest 2 got a #1 contender fight, the next 4 won contender fights

I'll throw the idea I had out to the masses. Bellator usually runs 8 man tourneys over 4 weight classes. I say run 4 divisions of 8 (or 8 divisions of 8). Doesn't matter who you face, lowest score from each division is eliminated from each event until you have 2(or 4 left) and run a playoff between the last guys standing.

I thought BB wanted to stay away from pools/divisions
Pilqs's idea seems like it is the same as the NFL style setup, except people get eliminated at each event
