Fighter Profile: Trig
Name:
Trygve
Other names:
Trig (name I always go by), Master Berge
JFC/UJC Record:
3-9-0
JEC Record:
2-6-0
J-1 Global Record:
1-3-0
Nationality:
American
Team:
TUFF
Who introduced you to MMA?
Myself, I started martial arts at 9 years old. I have stayed with it for the past 27 years. I owned and operated my own martial arts school here in the Portland Oregon area for 10 years. During that time I developed friendships with a lot of local pro and amateur fighters
What was the first MMA event you ever saw?
I first watched old Shooto fights and bareknuckle tournaments through bootleg VHS tapes before the UFC was founded. UFC 1 had me hooked from the opening fight
What was it about that event that roped you in? Or was it another MMA event that roped you in?
Like so many others watching Royce Gracie roped me into not only watching MMA, but also got me into the cage.
What is your favourite aspect of MMA?
MMA causes a person to learn all aspects of the sport. A fighter must know several different disciplines in order to be successful. That goes against everything the traditional styles have taught for so long. I remember my Master always saying,”it is better to have one sharp knife in the drawer than a dozen dull ones”. MMA proves that if your one sharp knife breaks you are f***ed
Who is your favourite fighter at each of the 7 major male weight class?
Heavyweight -
Fedor Emelianenko
Light Heavyweight -
Lyoto Machida
Middleweight -
Dan Henderson
Welterweight -
Mike Pierce
Lightweight -
Dave Jansen
Featherweight -
Jose Aldo
Bantamweight -
Miguel Torres
Who is your favourite fighter at the moment, and why?
Mike Pierce is my favorite fighter because he is a close personal friend of mine. He was my corner man in 3 of my fights. You can see him standing in my corner in the picture above. I was his corner man in his impressive win over Paul Bradley in Philadelphia.

Who is your favourite fighter of all time, and why?
Royce Gracie because he single handedly revolutionized the sport. He also proved to the world that technique is more important than size
How did you first here about the JFF?
I had been getting on MMAJUNKIE for a long time checking the latest news when one day I stumbled across the JFF site and decided to test my skills
What made you decide to stay in the JFF and compete on a regular basis?
Simple, the JFF makes watching MMA even more fun. It makes every fight on the card mean something. Before I started in the JFF I really didnt care about the undercard fights. Unless it was one of my friends. Now they are the most important to me
What is it like being a part of TUFF?
TUFF is a great group of guys who all have a passion for MMA. We all have the sense that we are kind of like an extended family. When one is down the rest of the team gives the support they need. Its pretty cool. There are no egos between these guys. Watch out for TUFF in 2010
Who is your fantasy fighting idol?
I know it sounds dumb to look up to a fantasy fighter, but I think Cast, Goodcats, and BB are three legends that I look up to
Any last thoughts?
I would like to thank everyone in the JFF that makes this the best site around. Keep up the hard work we all appreciate it, and a shout out to my team TUFF

This is one of my favorite interviews so far. Very well done! I always thought you maybe were a Frank Trigg fan, but it is cool that that is pretty much your name. Question....how did you win that fight? Did it go to a Dec, or did you get a sub or KO? Wasn't sure if your opponant is still clearing the cobwebs.....
