I don't think Calzaghe can be criticised for that, you need to look after number 1 first.

Yeah, that was my first reaction. Granted, I am so far from the boxing scene (I had never heard of Calzaghe before this thread) that I don't really have an informed opinion, but as I was reading Iole's article I was thinking the dude probably figured he had to make his money and operate within the system as it was set up. What if he gives up his WBO belt and his plan does not work out, he doesn't get the other fights he wanted? Then he became a martyr and threw his career down the toilet; hooray.

Calzaghe is no hypocrite. He was overlooked and underestimated by virtually everyone during his career. Big names wouldnt fight him on the way up then fall over themselves know to get spanked by Joe for one last payday. He trains out of the shi**iest dive you ever saw alongside kids learning how to throw a jab. He's undefeated, has absolutely schooled some serious names in the last few years and has chosen to make some well observed comments at the end of his career.
I'm sure Kevin Iole goes into work everyday and tells his boss he's an a**ehole just to avoid been labelled a hypocrite further down the line!
