Id say he is probably the #1 wrestler in his weight class considering he isn't a " wrestler " anymore because he is a full time MMA fighter. You cant compare him to his former colleagues when he is no longer one of them. That is a pretty dumb question man. Compare him to the rest of the MW's and his wrestling is on a totally different level than everybody else.

The reason he dominated Silva was because of his wrestling which then begs the question: is this guy the best wrestler? If not, then who else is out there who could dominate Silva (and even Chael). I've stated repeatedly his wrestling is far better than his competition in the UFC which is a stylistic advantage.
What we're talking about who is the BEST in the weight class without limiting it to the UFC -- because that's who I want to see in the octagon. And it's not Chael Sonnen.
Either one of the guys in this video would school Chael Sonnen... and I doubt Chael would disagree.

P.S. Those are some hairy bastards! ;-)

This is a Chael Thread?
Jones and Silva isnt going to happen, it would hurt there prized pigs too much, I dont think champions should change weight divisions to appease fans, they should do what makes them feel comfortable. Who cares be the greatest ww in the world or mw, you dont have to be the greatest at everything....

I think it makes good business sense to avoid this kind of matchups, but for those of us who remember the glory days of no weight classes ... we can still dream!

As I Have stated, are those guys MMA fighters? If not, they don't even need to be considered when talking about an MMA fight. Same as when we talk about ADCC and Leo Santos schooling GSP in less than 2 minutes. Sure, he beat him an a straight grappling match but Id bet you any amount of money that GSP would beat Santos in a MMA fight. Same with you and this wrestler comparison and Chaels advantage in MMA. If those dudes aren't MMA fighters, mentioning them and chael in MMA is ridiculous.

I don't think Chael could hang with either of them under MMA rules because Chael isn't a submission expert nor does he have great stand up. What's he going to do? Out wrestle them? Nope... so what's left?
He'll get thrown around the octagon for three rounds because he's primarily a wrestler.
I think your example would make sense if you were talking about someone with good standup, good submissions, etc. But your kneejerk response doesn't work when we're talking about a good wrestler versus an olympic wrestler.
I might even give you the nod when talking about Askren because he has a lot of submissions, but you're really testing the limits of credibility applying this logic to Chael Sonnen.

Honestly...I don't think anyone can technically beat Silva...I think they are going to have to do exactly what Chael did...just go freakin bezerk in the cage....straight ahead...heavy bombs...and just hope one lands...and that he doesn't slide one in...which is what Chael was able to do...in turn...taking Silva totally out of his elimate....
