A light heavyweight clash between fast-rising prospects Matt Hamill (7-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Jon Jones (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) is expected to feature prominently at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in December.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the event that a bout between Jones and Hamill is currently in negotiations, and at least one fighter's camp says verbal agreements are in place.
The bout would be expected to serve in at least a co-main-event role for the Dec. 5 event in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on Spike TV.
Jones will be looking to continue his meteoric rise up the ranks of the UFC's 205-pound division. The undefeated youngster, just 22 years old, has earned wins over Jake O'Brien, Stephan Bonnar and Andre Gusmao in his first three octagon bouts.
Meanwhile, Hamill, a former cast member of "The Ultimate Fighter 3," will be looking to build on the strength of two-straight wins. Back-to-back impressive victories over Mark Munoz and Reese Andy have garnered the 32-year-old some well-deserved buzz, putting behind the sting of a September 2008 loss to Rich Franklin.
Hamill had been expected to fight at UFC 102, but a knee injury suffered in training forced "The Hammer" out of a planned bout with Brandon Vera.

Intresting. I see Jones by UD, but Hamill could pull it out by decision or KO (he's got pretty heavy hands and leg
) but ultimatley i think jones dynamic throw's and TD's will get to Hamill late in the second and third, and with Jones reach and intresting standup i see an exciting 3 round war.

Great fight for both guys, this has potential to be a serious barnburner.

I think Jones will wipe the floor with him. But that's just me riding the JJ-Train. Better wrestling, better striking, more athletic, longer reach.

Hamill all the way, he will show that Jones was really over hyped.

I like Hamill and all but I seriously don't see him winning this fight, his stand-up is sloppy....really sloppy, he is a great wrestler but so was Jake Obrien. Plus Hamill is notorious for trying to stand and bang when he shouldnt. Jones is just as good in every other area plus his reach and speed are better than Hamill. Unless Hamill lands a freak KO then you can pretty much count on this fight look like the Obrien fight. I think Jones is still a little green to be fighting some of the more intelligent fighters, but as long as he keeps fighting Sloppy strikers he is going to continue to win.

This should be good. I'm leaning toward Hamill, but Jones is super athletic and has great range. Should be interesting for sure....

Add that he can hear direction from his corner. This isn't a cheap shot but just a reflection of Matt not really sticking to fight plans and no ability to take direction mid round. Whereas Jon will have Team Jackson in his corner for this fight. It definitely is something Matt has to overcome and I admire that about his ability to compete.

+1. You can notice in his fights that he keeps looking at his corner and ignore his opponent for few seconds which is deadly especially against top 10 fighters. I think Matt Hamill will always have a job with the UFC because of his heart and determination.

These are two of my favorite fighters. I don't know who to root for. It should be a really good bout though. I'm excited

I, like Sedulous, am riding the JJ-Train. I expected him to win at UFC 100 by UD because I thought he was too flashy to finish Jake O', but I was proved wrong. I feel like now that JJ is more experienced, he can actually finish fights now. I expect him to utilize his reach advantage and score a 2nd or 3rd round (T)KO.
Please excuse the digression, but this card also has another hot prospect I'm looking out for, Rousimar Palhares. He's fighting Alessio Sakara, who recently won a split decision against another jiu-jitsu guy, Thales Leites (which I thought he should've lost 28-29). Palhares is definitely someone I have high hopes for. Of course, there was another guy just like him with jiu-jitsu just as awesome named Demian Maia, and he got KO'ed in 21 seconds at UFC 102. So we'll see.
Frankie Edgar is also on this card, but so far, I'm not very impressed by him because of his 6 fights in the UFC, he only finished one. He's officially 5-1 in the UFC, but you might as well say he's 1-0-5.

Totally hijacking this thread, but i too have high hopes for Palhares. Even more so than Maia, Hendo was afraid to go the ground with Palhares, Palhares even took Hendo down, and his standup wasn't too bad, his kicks are supremley better than Maia's
Palhares by 1st round amputation. You can't not root for a guy whose nickname is tree stump
And to add to the thread, Jones' reach wil be too much for Hammill's sloppy standup.

Palhares is my favorite up and comer. I think he'll take Sakara simply because his BJJ is a lot more aggressive than Thales's. Palhares will slam Sakara to the ground slap a serious leg lock on him.

I think hamill is the most underrated guy in the ufc, but if he smart he can take Bones down and win a UD but if he trys to bang like he always does he will lost

Bones owns this fight. He's working out with the Greg Jackson gang now. He's going to have some sick sparring/workout partners, unbelievable direction and a solid game plan. Coming into the fight he's likely to have Hamill beat before they even get to the cage. I don't mean this as a knock on Hamill at all, I just think his sloppy style and inability to hear put him at a serious disadvantage in this one.
That being said. I wouldn't be mad if either fighter won. I like both of em.
