Jones just had a most impressive win over Shogun. He was clearly excited about winning the belt. But look how quickly his disposition changed when Rashad entered the ring. His facial and body language said very clearly I don't want to have to fight this man who he acknowledges as being one of his mentors. Clearly it's going to pain him greatly to have to whoop Rashad's azz. And don't get it twisted, because that's precisely what he's going to do. And Jones knows he can and will destroy Rashad. He just doesn't want to have to.
Rashad should back out of the fight immediately and go down to 185 -- like he said he would. He will save himself the beating of his life -- worse than the one he took from Machida -- who, btw should fight Jones next after he beats Couture. And Rampage? He should line up to fight Shogun next. Its perfect for him getting Shogun after a devastating loss like this. Machida vs Jones is the next logical step in my book. Fck Jones vs Rashad! We already know who's gonna win that fight. Jones all the damn way! Thoughts?
They should fight and set an example that this is a sport and not personal. IF they fight and it gets ugly between them it will make other teammates not want to fight. I hope they can keep it respectful
Well, my case for Machida is this. He was the champion before Shogun. He absolutely destroyed Rashad. And he had Rampage in big trouble in the last round of their fight. Now Rampage definitely won the fight because Machida was not aggressive enough in the first two rounds. However, when Machida finally turned up the heat... Rampage got rocked. I do respect Randy Couture and he does have a shot but it's slim at best.
On the otherhand, who has Rashad looked impressive beating LATELY? Nobody! I was not impressed with any of his recent victories. He's gotten into a bad habit of playing it safe and squeaking out decision victories ever since Machida knocked him silly. Plus for having such a big mouth, Rashad has a very weak chin. Jones will run right through him!

Machida should and probably will get his shot sooner or later, but what the heck is he going to do. If he tries to be a counter puncher, he will get ko'd Machida is giving up to much of a reach advantage for counter punching to be effective. If Machida moves forward and acts as the aggressor (Shogun tonight) he will get Shogun'd. Someone said Phil Davis has a shot, I think with his strength and wrestling, he does have a shot, but not until he becomes a better stand up fighter.

Yes they should. There's nobody else who makes sense at 205 and you can't throw Jones straight into super fights before he's even defended the belt.
Having said that, I wouldn't be betting on Rashad to win. He definitely has a good shot though. Awesome wrestling, power and is fast as hell. I can see him utilizing his in-and-out striking game to try and clip Jones and mixing it up well with take downs. Obviously the big hurdle is going to be that reach. It's a big height/weight and reach difference between the two.
the only chance i give rashad is they were training buddies, rashad has felt jones strength before, he knows more than we do. if he wants this fight its for a reason. however i think he will get smashed but you never know. rashad knows how jones fights, trains and reacts, he could pick a plan that might just pull out a victory. the problem is i don't think rashad could smother him on the ground for 5 rounds he is going to have to finish jones, how does he do that????????????

Believe me when I say this, Rashad knows he's in for an @ss whoopin unless Jones has a problem fighting a close friend. Liddell could have won the title long before he did, but was a training partner of Tito's which is why it took so long for the fight to happen. A.S. was held back in Pride because some of his training partners were already on top, and he could not fight them. Silva has gotten better since Pride but he didn't just all of the sudden do it after he came to the UFC, he was overlooked because of other fighters he wasn't going to face in Pride. Jones and Evans already no who wins this, the only chance Rashad has is a punchers chance or since they were so close, he might know of some weakness that Jones has which may help. Jones has probably gotten better because of Rashad but I'm sure they both know who wins this before they even step into the cage.
