This isn't about Goat Lists or anything like that (Anyone who knows me, knows I place Aldo as the 4th greatest of all time)
This is just about Acknowledging greatness.
Aldo, is about to be on his 2nd fight in 5 months. Completely outclassing and dominating Martinez, who was on a 6 fight win streak at the time. Aldo walked into that fight at 37 and walked through the 30 year old, like he wasn't there. Hurt him SEVERAL times...
I wanted to acknowledge that an Aldo, who is flirting with retirement quite a bit lately, is more active than 80% of the champions we have right now.
Edwards,
just lost his title, but before that, hadn't defended in 7 months, no injuries or anything preventing it.
Islam,
won't face the contenders in his division and would rather face FW, fought ONE lw in 2 years. Islam is basically fighting every 8 months (if that).
Goat Jones
is injured and has been for over a year (I'm willing to look passed injuries, depending on the severity), however.. still 1 fight in 3 years, even though he was putting on weight to go to HW.
Pantoja
, I don't care... but fought at the last ppv Aldo was on, which means Aldo is fighting even before him.
DDP,
gets beat up by Izzy in a couple of weeks. but hasn't fought since January which makes it 7 months.
O malley,
defended the belt 7 months after winning it, and now another 7 months after that fight will be defending.
Topuria,
homie KNOCKED OUT the 3rd greatest FeatherWeight of all time easily, and has YET to announce a fight, he states he is fighting at UFC 308, which is 8 months after he won it.
(Pereira's a Monster and will be getting his own thread from me, explaining just how appreciative I am to have been able to watch this fighter dominate kickboxing, come over and dominate mma the way he has. Activity at this level should be praised)
So, this means that 37 year old, Aldo is fighting more frequently than 7 of the Male UFC champions. Cutting weight to 135 at his age and fighting more frequently than the champions?
I just wanted to state I appreciate Aldo and all he has done, the greatest featherweight of all time is still going and owning at this age/stage.

I used to like Aldo's dominance during his leg kicking days, but every skill runs its course. When he went more boxing, and lost a few fights, I thought he was over. The winning streak as of late is nice, and it will be interesting to see how he will perform in a quick turnaround.

You can't compare champs schedule to others. The UFC makes these fights primarily based on location which determines the timing

Lame excuse, even though that was a clear mistake

I think that's why I am most excited, the quick turnaround, it just shows he still has IT and I'm excited.
The leg kicks were amazing, I did think they needed to slow down a bit, since I remember his clash of shins with Mendes and from that I was like 'slow down' and he did.
The leg kicks are always there and he's one of the best with them, so when his opponent gets TOO relaxed, he'll blast it.

I don't like pro-Palestinian Blah, but he can fight. I think Lenny has the skills to beat him, if he displayed his skills. But he didn't.

Aldo is one of the GOATS. Younger fans of the sport don't give him the recognition he deserves because the first time they saw him he was getting sparked by Conor. It's a shame because his run of dominance was legendary, glad to see him still doing what he loves.

It does seem like they get the belt and would rather do a plethora of interviews, rather than defend the damn thing.

Yes, there are guys like Pereira and Volk, but most champions are told when to fight that make most sense to the company and not asked to save the day otherwise

Plus, he was basically homeless in Brazil, when they took him in at the gym he joined.
That seems to be a theme, with successful MMA fighters. They are fighting for their lives! NGannou, if it is to be believed, was the same thing.

That run.... is absolutely legendary, 10+ years undefeated, 11-4 in title fights NINE defenses of his title.
Honestly that's how I feel about Cyborg, easily to me the greatest female fighter of all time, but people saw that loss to Nunes and just ran with it, but you bring up the loss to Pena and they deflect.

Weird thing, I never cared about Ngannou's story, because he was such a diva with so many things he did. The guy got beat by Stipe, then had a staring match with Lewis and claimed 'UFC doesn't want to push me' ummmmmm WHAT?! YOU FOUGHT FOR THE TITLE!
Idk it just rubbed me the wrong way, but.. One of the hardest hitting punchers I've ever seen in MMA so I give him his due.

I think it's a common theme with fighters as far back as it goes in any combat sport. Rich soft handed folks don't do this stuff. Haaaa.

Ok, but you can't say the time of day is an excuse for one of them while the other fought under same condition. You can say it wasn't optimal in general which is correct 100% or that it affected Leon more than Belal who came from the US so maybe was easier to adapt but that's still a lame excuse when the rules were known months in advance
