I was just watching MMA Connected (Sportsnet Ontario) and Showdown Joe has said Pellegrino has decided to retire from MMA.
I remember a while back there was an article on the main page that he would retire next time he lost.
Is this a Rampage retirment or do you guys think it is legit? Hope to see him back, he could be a guy to shakeup the lightweight division

Not everybody wants to fight forever.
If your heart isn't into it anymore, there's no point.

He said he would retire if he lost. I don't like it, but Jak hit it right on the head.

It's obvious that he doesn't need to fight when he can easily become a male model.

Can't be a male model with that many tattoos.
I'm disappointed. I think Pellegrino is a good fighter. But I guess he doesn't think it's in him to become a champion.

Kinda sucks, I'm a fan of his for sure. But he has been around a while, so I guess he decided to give it one last push to try and get that belt. Too bad it didn't work out for him. I bet now he's thinking, "what if there were 10 more seconds in the fight?" That might have been the difference between him retiring and continuing his career.

True. But you can't beat being able to walk away from your sport on your own terms than being forced out against your will because of injuries, a downhill slide, etc...

that does suck. i never really saw him as a guy that would be holding the belt he was a pretty entertaining guy to watch. who knows, maybe he will make a great coach for future stars. wish him all the best.

Yep. Nobody wants to see a guy way past his prime get knocked out every fight.

Ehh, I could care less.....the guy was a slightly above average fighter. Theres plenty more fighters out there who are hungry and actually want to be in his position in the UFC. Let him walk.

If this is true it stings a little to see happen. I've always like Kurt, and even though he was never one of the "elite" fighters, he always put on a good show.
Except for this past fight with George, he really didn't seem like himself and that could be a big part leading to his decision.
Wish him the best of luck in all his future endevours.

Plus he had to realize he'll never be the best. Kurt seemed like a smart guy with other options so if true you can't blame the guy for moving on.

I hope this means Bruce Wayne is coming to the UFC to fight under Pellegrino's abandoned nickname
But it's a shame he's leaving, he was entertaining to watch and always put on a good fight. Good luck to him in the future

I hope it doesn't stay this way.
If he wanted, he could have a bright future in another organization, but he has had a pretty impressive career in one of, if not the toughest division in MMA.

He said himself if he lost again he would just retire because he doesn't have it in him to jump to the back of the title line and start over again. Props to him for telling the truth and sticking to his guns. He seems like a cool guy so good luck in whatever he does after this.

Exactly. Too often we see fighters continue past their prime. A lot of times it's probably just because they would rather end their careers with a win instead of a loss. Not everybody can win their last fight. I think more fighters should be able to recognize when to hang 'em up.

Kurt is a hell of a fighter. Hopefully this decision is premature.
