Nogueira's weird long-ranged guard was awesome made Davis look foolish falling over and being pushed away so easily, almost Amateur. I dont know if he couldn't, but too bad he didn't do anything with the wrist control he had over Davis the entire time, not one submission attempt. Disappointed. I was going for Davis for the win though.

Then read better buddy. I was pointing out the good and the bad. His weird but awesome guard made Davis look Amateur, yet he didnt utilize any BJJ even though he had wrist control over Davis the entire time. It was a good fight and im not trying to take away from that but. like i said in my post i was going for P.Davis but Lil'Nog had everything needed except TDD to win that fight.

Its hysterical how everybody have jumped off the Phil Davis ship for this past fight....
Bones fought a guy named Jake O'Brien at the 9-0 point in his career.... While Davis fought some guy named Antônio Rogério Nogueira at his 9-0 mark....
PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Im not comparing Bones to Davis because I think Davis can "catch-up to Bones' skill-set.. Its more of a calm-down-people comparison.... Davis took almost zero damage vs Lil Nog that isnt foolish or amateur to say the least

Dont ever tell me what i havn't done pal. Hahaha!! ....Yeah, amateur and foolish. I am a big Davis fan and has rooted for him every fight but sorry when such a great wrestler and "good" BJJ guy is resting on the tip of his toes getting pushed over in an open guard - YES THATS AMATEUR!!!!!

I agree but disagree, i thought that was where the problem was. Both his Boxing and his BJJ is better than Davis' but he thought his Boxing was way better, so everytime he was taken down he wasnt aggressive with the BJJ and tried to stand it back up.

Umm, Dude you need to chill out... Davis played it smart and didnt make any risky moves against someone who is much more seasoned than him as a fighter and making a mistake against someone like him would been a harsh decision to make at this point in his career. So what he was getting pushed back, he remained in dominate "Wrestling Position" and won the fight.

I think a reason BJJ guys arent going for subs is because they are worrying too much about GnP, specially against a guy like Phil Davis.......Lil Nog probably thought he was gonna Jon Jones his ***, so he worried more about not letting Phil get position than attempting a sub
but I think they should be more agressive, thats what makes Nick Diaz and Aoki so dangerous because you know as soon as you take them down they will attempt a submission no matter what position they are on and even good wrestlers cant deal with it, so it becomes a mental thing wrestlers are worried about taking them down for that reason, a guy like GSP wouldnt take Nick Diaz down IMO even though it would be easy for him but because Nick Diaz will attempt a submission is something to worry about and since Nick's BJJ is above everyone he'd likely submit GSP (thats just an example lets not make it a Diaz/GSP argument)
my point is that BJJ guys should be more agressive with wrestlers to keep wrestlers worrying about getting submitted because the mentality is that if a wrestler TD a BJJ guy he will do ground control and do his will because BJJ guy is too worried about get GnP they wont attempt a submission

You had me until you said Diaz would submit GSP, and then you had me again. Sometimes guys dont give you the opportunity thou, and Davis doesnt do that. Good wrestlers will point out the fight and win a MMA fight and not a cockfight.

Lol i wasn't getting upset, I tend to get a excited though in the heat of the moment. But P.Davis didnt remain in wrestling position and had really bad control for a great wrestler during this fight, he just kept on getting the takedowns out-pointing Nogueira

Warborn, are you having a bad day or are you always this douchey? You and your obviously witty and gentleman like responses to the dudes on here is not gonna get you any cool points or make people even want to read your threads. You may be better off at S-dog.

Is lil Nogs bjj over rated?
Did not even try a sub attempt against Davis. I know Davis was not really commiting to anything while in the guard of Nog, but from such a high level BJJ guy i thought he would try to set something up.
Even against Brilz he could not finish a fight on the ground for a good portion of the fight

lol, I dont need cool points. No one is here seeing me write this nor any of my friends visiting this forum, i will never meet any of yous or care, so i dont need "cool". But to the pont. I dont think i was being "douchy" at all, I have been posting on here for 4 years now and have always followed the rules and guidliness of the forum and has never been warned or banned from a topic, I simply express my opinion or debate other topics, as is what this forum is for. If you think im douchy, you must hate a lot of other comments and topics because this room and everyone elses is full of idiocy, mine is substantially miner if you compare. I dont apologize for anything and I hope YOU look forward to more of my subversiveness in the futur
hahaha!!

Ummmm arent you the Amateur? Have you ever been in Lil Nog's open guard?
Youre just not giving Lil Nog credit for thinking someone else would look like a pro when playing the jitz game with him...

Yes, I'll admit im Amateur, that has nothing to do with analyzing fights and pointing out mistakes, anybody trained at a basic or intermediate level "should" be able to recognize atleast half. your not reading clearly what i wrote man!! Nogueira's guard was awesome, so i dont know how im not giving him credit. everybody else hes fought wether they have been able to roll with him or not, have made technical mistakes that cost them postion or give up a limb. P.Davis however, whom i was rooting for by the way (again) was making large and quite obvious mistakes that i as an Amateur make in the gym.

Actually Nog didn't do much in my opinion, nothing we haven't seen before. Unless, is the butterfly guard new?
Butterfly Guard Crash Course
1 - Float Like a Butterfly, Sweep Like a Bee
The butterfly guard is a DYNAMIC position. This means that you need to keep on moving and attacking. Your legs aren't locking your opponent in place, so if you stop and hang out your opponent will probably figure out how to pass your guard. By always threatening the sweep you make it difficult for him to impose his own game plan.
2 - Get Up, Sit Up
To be effective from the butterfly you need to get your back off the mat and sit up. There ARE some people who are effective with their backs flat to the mat, but they are in the minority. Furthermore it is possible that these same people would be even more effective if they would only sit up...
Sitting up allows you to generate more momentum on your sweeps. If you sit up you can drive forward, fall to the side or fall backwards; all these movements can generate a lot of power. If you are already lying on your back you have less options and it takes a lot more effort to generate power.
3 - Develop At Least Two Reliable Attacks
In order to attack your opponent effectively you need a couple of reliable sweeps to start everything else off. These bread and butter attacks will become the foundation of your game, kind of like the jab and cross in boxing. For many people two such techniques in the butterfly guard game are the 'basic' butterfly guard sweep the armdrag.
The 'basic' butterfly guard sweep works at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, so it is anything but basic. Learn to do it both sideways and at a 45 degree angle (discussed in more detail here: http://tinyurl.com/2ck5ar).
The armdrag is a great way to take your opponent's back, but even if it doesn't work it still harasses your opponent and puts him on the defensive. I have learned a lot about the armdrag by studying video footage of Marcelo Garcia in competition
4 - Develop Your X Guard and Half Butterfly Too
The butterfly guard works particularly well in conjunction with the X guard
