Lombard vs Weidman

Lombard would knock him out IMO......Lombard's base, core strength and MMA grappling are better than Munoz and of course his striking is WAY better than Weidman's......everybody is high on Weidman right now though, and theres gonna be threads about people screaming that Chris would beat Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Fedor in the same night....SMH.

yeah im not buying into the hype on weidman
It's a matchup that makes sense if Lombard beats Tim (He WILL!!) but one I want them to avoid, just because I want to see both of them fight AS. I'd rather each of them fight either Belcher/Belfort/Stann/Bisping to cement their title shot. Of course this hinges on how Lombard looks come UFC 149, because if he just trucks through his fight, I really hope he just gets a shot, keep AS busy!

I've liked Weidman for a whle. its not like its just all hype, the guy won his first 4 UFC fights and then went on to demolish at top 5 MW for a #1 contender spot. Seems really humble and dedicated but people just love to hate. Lombard hasnt done anything to deserve a fight with him anyway

I agree with this. There's no reason to have Anderson sitting out for so long, especially when so many fighters are making their case for a shot.

A lot of people are sucking the balls of Weidman right now so its only natural they will all be saying he is the next GOD of MMA and can destroy/submit anyone. I would love to see Weidman get a test like Lombard/Belcher/Belfort or even Bisping then we will see how well he does and if he wins then we know he deserves to fight Silva.
imo Weidman loses to Lombard, Belcher, Bisping and Belfort.

And it just goes to show how overrated Munoz was and he shouldnt of been ranked that high to begin with. Lombard has shitloads more experience than Weidman and we all know he is the better striker by far lets not even mention the fact that Hector is BJJ and Judo black belt.
On paper Lombard destroys Weidman and if this fight happens and Weidman wins Ill be happy to suck it up and admit I was wrong, unlikely though.

on paper, weidman's biggest wins are demian maia and mark munoz
on paper, weidman's bjj/wrestling >>>> lombard bjj/judo

On paper Lombard is probably one of, if not the top grappler in the MW division. BJJ BB and Olympic Judoka.
I'm not really on either of these guys hype trains right now. I've always felt Munoz was a bit overrated to be honest. That being said, what Weidman was able to due to Munoz was still pretty damn impressive-regardless on what I think of Munoz. Kid has a bright future.
I do think Lombard would probably beat Weidman
right now
though. His conditioning would concern me a bit, but his striking, ground game, strength(etc) are all very solid. It'll be interesting to see how he performs in his first fight. I think then I would be able to give a better opinion.
ok so that last part i feel like a douche because yes on paper olympics > ncaa, but i was thinking more about how they apply them to mma. so 'on mma paper' weidman has been choking dudes out and smothering on the ground in all of his fights whereas lombard doesnt utilize that aspect of his game much in mma
also, lombard got his black belt for submitting a guy that got kicked out of the ufc (yes i just looked that up)
I still haven't caught up on last night's event (for any Rogan podcast listeners I went and saw Joey Diaz in SF, super cool guy! Had a great time talking with him!), but I have to say I'm super super pumped to see Lombard in the UFC! Maybe I'm easily impressed, but I'm excited to see how he fares. I think a few people may be surprised! Or maybe I'll facepalm...

I agree with everything you said, I was just pointing out that " on paper " Lombard is a top of the food chain grappler. I still think Weidman beats Lombard due to better cardio.
