"I want to let all my fans know. I fought my last fight injured. I wasnt 100% sure but I went to the doctors, I have a fracture sternum with a torn cartilage," Lombard wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
"I got this injury in training for my fight with Tim Boetsch. I have to be out of training for 6 weeks, I should never have fought like that, but I didn’t want to let my fans and the UFC down."

Don't let a sloppy debut fool you. Just like Shogun and Condit, they were highly touted for their UFC debuts and lost.... What became of them next? UFC champs. Coincidence?

I still dont see how lombard fought any differently in this fight, other than that there wasnt a can for him to knockout in the blue corner.

@MMAjunkieDann
Is a fractured sternum the new cracked skull?

This was my thought as well. Someone had to replace Tito right? Only thing more disappointing than his performance is that he made an excuse for it.

Jeez, I haven't heard this one before.
Anti-UFC trolls were talking about how he was the one to dethrone Anderson Silva. And when he was picked apart by Tim "the hype derailer" Boetsch it was all of the sudden "oh I was injured".
More like you were a disappointment. "The hype derailer" made me rich that night. Accept the fact you got picked apart and move on.
And Carlos Condit is a horrible comparison. He was facing a tough Martin Kampmann and not even a huge favourite. He's not even the champion yet either. He got not one, but three suspicious wins over three people too. The Rory fight if it went 10 more seconds would have been a draw or a loss for sure, the Ellenberger fight was for sure a loss, and I scored the Nick Diaz fight a loss to him too but it was close.

do you dish out this many nicknames in your real life too?
Never a fan of guys coming out with injuries after the fact. Legit or not, keep training and move on

Figured something was off, I figured it was just nerves, but a sternum fracture makes sense. He wasn't even recognizable as the same fighter.
And "picked apart"? Did you watch the fight? bad fight by both fighters but don't see how Tim won.

Oh my God!! He fought injured?? I can't believe it!
\s
Fighters fight hurt all the time and don't feel the need to cry about it after losing. Hector passed his medical, so he was healthy enough to fight.

Exactly.
But did it hinder his performances?
Sure.
Does it justify such a poor performance?
Not at all.
It is important to look at all aspects that go into a fight, there was something clearly wrong with Lombard in that fight if you have followed his career; I thought it might have been an adrenaline dump before he got in to the cage, a lingering injury explains his lack of attack, but it defiantly gave his critics fuel for fire because he made beating lower competition look easy and then pull something like that in a bump up in competition. . . if he was so hurt he should have just pulled out of the fight, with insurance he was going to get paid and now his career may have a bad blemish on it.

God I'm sick of s--- MMA couch potato fans who have no clue what an athlete actually goes through....
Like would you rather the guy pull out of the fight???? So either you watch an impaired Lombard or no Lombard.
There was obviously something not right with him and this makes a lot of sense because it probably restricted a lot of movement. He was getting the better of most of the exchange but just wasn't able to be aggressive. I have no doubt he'll be back and come back strong and make all of you eat your own s---.

most on here know what athletes go through.......which is why no one cares about his excuse.
he was injured....sure but obviously not enough to where he thought he couldn't win. So all in all its HIS fault for the crappy fight and the eventual loss. Then it just makes him look more weak for making an excuse, especially so soon.

I believe him. Hope he heals up, comes back more aggressive than ever and gets a W in his next fight.

Lombard would have been better keeping this to himself. He put in a piss poor performance, excuses just make you look worse.

So you would rather that garbage performance be what you're expecting next? You'd rather just turn a blind eye and say...yeah Hector must suck, instead of knowing the truth? Boetsch came out and said he broke his foot in the 1st round or whatever...why does no one hold that against him? These are pretty serious injuries that would obviously affect performances...I'd personally rather know the guy will be better next time out.
