I was planning on going to UFC 104, and I am so glad I didn't because I would have gone wild.
I was yelling at the T.V at the top of my lungs, and then I went to a computer and tried to log on MMAJUNKIE to see if I was the only guy that was pissed off, only to find out that there was so much traffic that I couldn't even get on, I even tried Sherdog, and came up with the same thing.
I came back to try again, and found that all MMA forums were flooded with Shogun is the new LHW champ kinda threads.
Now if Shogun were to win like he was supposed to, I would have really wished I was there to laugh at all the Machida fans, even though Machida is a very very very solid fighter, probably #2 or so when it comes to LHW. (Little Nog is going to tear up that division)

Did'nt most of the former Chutebox members and Anderson Silva have a falling out?
My understanding that Shogun and Wanderli are not on the best terms with Silva.
So why would AS go tell his friend Lyoto that the guy he does not like beat him in Shogun?
Sounds like conflict of interest in interupting the results for AS.

Great, bring this up again. Sigh.
I can't wait for Machida to retire ... I don't see us getting rid of him any other way, but fortunately, nothing lasts forever.

I'm not surprised Machida would say this. What do you expect? He won the fight. He's still champion. It would NOT be good for himself to admit he lost and he should not be champion even if he knows it deep down.

why is everyone so caught up in how many fans were booing, and whose ribs were broken and how beaten machida looked after the fight. Last time i checked that's not how MMA is scored. Machida did the smart thing and the smart thing for shogun to do would have been to throw punches and combos in the last round which he had ample opportunity for and i don't recall him doing that. machida is champ and rightly so.

As far as i know its a 10 point must system (in the UFC). based on effective grappling striking and octagon control. like i said before octagon control goes to shogun no question but he couldn't grapple with machida and the majority of his strikes were leg kicks wich are not as effective as several punches to the face. I'm not saying they don't hurt but They aren't as likely to finish a fight.

Exactly though.
Shogun controlled the Octagon by making Machida back away. Shogun had the more effective strikes regardless if they were going to end the fight. And last I checked, Machida was getting his lips stiched back together, not Shogun. And Machida could not grapple with Shogun either. So based on how the system of scoring is, Shogun should have been awarded the victory.

Rounds 1 and 2: shogun had the octagon control, grappling was simply a draw, i feel shogun had the strikes but ok, we'll give that to machida. These rounds if not for shogun, they should at the very MOST be a draw. 10 - 9 and 10 - 9 to shogun or two 10 - 10's.
round 3: Shogun was definitely getting the better of the striking in that round until machida had his outburst at the end of the round, if you guys feel that was enough to give machida the round. what the hell, 10 - 9 to machida.
Rounds 4 and 5: Machida was obviously done with, got really slow, the only aggressor was shogun. 10 - 9, and 10 - 9 to shogun
worst case scenario for shogun in this fight was:
rnd 1: 10 - 10
rnd 2: 10 - 10
rnd 3: 10 - 9 machida
rnd 4: 10 - 9 shogun
rnd 5: 10 - 9 shogun
and this way the judges would be very generous to machida.

+1 and people need to stop hating machida for a decision that wasn't even his to make.

From the reading I've done on MMA scoring, it seems like a failed takedown is worse than simply not shooting at all- when your takedown is stuffed, it establishes octagon control for your opponent: you wanted to take it to the ground, he didn't let you. Shogun had a couple of takedown attempts that turned into clinches. While he did some damage there, I'm pretty sure that leaves Machida gaining points for octagon control, which could have cost him those rounds. Am I misunderstanding the rules here?

No, thats grappling, Octagon control was awared to Lachita for "Making shogun follow him around the cage" (not literally but basically, that's what cecil ppl said)....

I feel like Machida won. Joe Rogan and Dana White just love Shogun, apparently.

If Shogun won the fight everyone was talking about Anderson Silva vs Shogun
But if Anderson thought Lyoto won, wouldnt Anderson be gracious enough to let Lyoto have a rematch.
Meaning this rematch would have very likely happened anyway. The way I see it is to be the champion it has to be "undisputed", and I think if Shogun was champ he would not be "undisputed" either. Meaning I could care less who is champ right now because the rematch is gonna happen anyway, and it would have happend (IMO) had shogun won the fight.

Nope there would be no rematch for Machida just like how Rampage didnt get one. Rua clearly won and when 80% of the fans say that means it there would no rematch. Its extremly rare to see a rematch for the belt happen.

you do know a rematch has already been confirmed by junkie?
